FAWN: MASTER An unexpected promotion to the rank of Shapeling Master sends Fawn Woods on her first Mission of Mastery: nanny to an emotionally challenged child. Unknown to anyone but Fawn and the Thirteen co-Princes, Zoe Spencer is an Indigo child: the next stage in human evolution. To help Zoe, Fawn must first unravel the mystery surrounding her. Complicating matters, Fawn's heart is drawn to Zoe's widower father. Having a relationship with a human is something to be avoided at all costs. A widower for two years, Wade Spencer goes through nannies like water. His daughter's new caregiver is certainly not the matronly type he'd expected. What had the employment agency been thinking to send such a breathtaking beauty to his cattle ranch? However, Wade's not too concerned about her sticking around. Zoe will probably drive her away before the day is over. Seven year old Zoe doesn't want to cause trouble; she just wants the voices in her head to stop talking. When her daddy brings home the new nanny, she can't believe her eyes. Not only is the nanny beautiful, but the colors surrounding her are different from any she's ever seen. Who is this strange new lady? DAVIDE: PRINCE Since childhood, Davide Beowolf has been told that he is the fulfillment of prophesy--the Great Shapeling Prince. Early on, he decided the universe had made a mistake. How could he be the Prince when he has no shifting ability? For years he has wanted to confront the Thirteen co-Princes to convince them of their error, and when that opportunity is unexpectedly given, it is with a strange stipulation. He must first travel to Uluru in The Red Center of Australia and go on a walkabout with his childhood friend and confidant, Zoe Spencer. Only after completing their walkabout will his father reveal directions to the Cave of Thirteen. Unfortunately, Zoe has been avoiding him for two years. Zoe just wants to get on with her life. After accepting the fact that Davide Beowolf will never view her as his soul mate and lover--always his older friend--she severed contact to preserve her heart. She'd already spent too much of her adulthood pining for him. However, while on tour with her symphony orchestra in Spain, Davide unexpectedly shows up with an incredible request: he wants her to accompany him to Australia and go on a walkabout!

Rufus Ghant was a child from an orphanage because of abandonment by his parents. While in the orphanage, he was hired out to work on a ranch owned by a gentleman rancher who raised horses and cattle. He met the daughter of the family. He and the daughter, Amanda Vance, grew in love. They attended college together and were to marry. After college, he was drafted into the Army. He became a Green Beret. While at boot camp, Amanda was brutally murdered by Jason Brantly, the son of a local judge. He escaped justice due to a technicality. Upon learning of Amanda’s death, Rufus swore to seek vengeance. Having served his country in Vietnam, he was hired by the Colorado Highway Patrol. He apprehended a speeder who was politically connected. The speeder reached for a pistol in the glove compartment. Rufus felt he would be shot; thus he killed the man. Rufus was fired by the patrol despite his exemplary service due to politics. The patrol commander spoke on behalf of Rufus; thus Rufus was hired on as a sheriff deputy. Later, he was to become the sheriff of Hunter County in a place called Mountain Pass, Colorado. Rufus modernized the department. He had a strict rule. “Never accept favors from anyone, thus to become beholden to anyone, especially to politicians, the wealthy.” He became the benevolent power in the county. He was able to achieve the lowest crime rate in the country. He applied tough justice goal to all, regardless of position in life. He later married. His family consisted of his wife, an adopted daughter, and later took in a young boy, whose parents were killed by the son of Jason Brantly. Jason Brantly built a resort near Rufus’s home. Rufus, knowing of Brantley’s interest, applied strict justice against the resort for even the smallest violation. Brantly’s son was arrested for several traffic violation and was jailed for killing the parents of the young boy in the second traffic incident. Jason Brantly was safe on one of the cry men islands. He was involved with the mob and a drug cartel. Brantly sent a group of man to kill Rufus’s family and two pets, a dog and a deer. All died as a result of brutalities unimaginable to the human mind. Rufus’s wife was pregnant at the time. The unborn child was subjected to absolute cruelty. Rufus place was at its ——. With the help of others, he enacted his furious punishment of all involved. At the end of his punishments, he called out, “JUSTICE DONE!”

Every day in Fawn Creek, Louisiana, is exactly the same—until Orchid Mason arrives. From Erin Entrada Kelly, the winner of the Newbery Medal for Hello, Universe and a Newbery Honor for We Dream of Space, this contemporary school story set in small-town Louisiana is about friendship, family, deception, and being true to yourself and your dreams. There are twelve kids in the seventh grade at Fawn Creek Middle School. They’ve been together all their lives. And in this small factory town where everyone knows everything about everyone, that’s not necessarily a great thing. There are thirteen desks in the seventh-grade classroom. That’s because Renni Dean’s father got a promotion, and the family moved to Grand Saintlodge, the nearest big town. Renni’s desk is empty, but Renni still knows their secrets; is still pulling their strings. When Orchid Mason arrives and slips gracefully into Renni’s chair, the other seventh graders don’t know what to think. Orchid—who was born in New York City but just moved to Fawn Creek from Paris—seems to float. Her dress skims the floor. She’s wearing a flower behind her ear. Fawn Creek Middle might be small, but it has its tightly knit groups—the self-proclaimed “God Squad,” the jocks, the outsiders—just like anyplace else. Who will claim Orchid Mason? Who will save Orchid Mason? Or will Orchid Mason save them? Newbery Medal and Newbery Honor winner Erin Entrada Kelly explores complex themes centered on family, friendships, and staying true to yourself. Those Kids from Fawn Creek will enchant fans of Thanhhà Lai’s Inside Out & Back Again and Rebecca Stead’s The List of Things That Will Not Change.
