How the wheels of the international high finance machine turn is a mystery to most. Surprisingly, also to the big wheels, who don't have the divine knowledge they'd have us think they do, and maybe themselves have come to believe they have. The fact is, precious little is predictable, but also that various simple strategies can give the average person the edge in riding both the high and low waves. No matter if things on the international scene are up, down or sideways, you can make money—good money—by staying cool and just knowing what to do when. Yasin Sebastian Qureshi opens the doors to the once hallowed halls he's rendered less than magical. At 29 the youngest ever person to run a bank in Europe, Qureshi tells of the constant opposition to his simplfied ideas from those higher up who "knew better"—until his success gave abundant proof that they work. Through simple strategies, psychological tips and anecdotes from the roller coaster ride of investment, Passion to Wealth: The Mountain Climber's Shortcut, co-authored by Benjamin Bilski (Forbes "30 under 30"), shows how this can be mastered—without huge financial input, years of study or painful hours trying to decipher mind-boggling charts. And with an eye on doing what you enjoy doing in life, without selling your soul. Play, communicate, grow, enjoy. Your passion can indeed drive your wealth, and your wealth, in turn, can drive your passion. This little book will show you how.

De Unione Insulae Britannicae (The British Union) is a unique seventeenth-century tract that urged the fusion of the Scottish and English kingdoms into a new British commonwealth with a radically new British identity. Its author, David Hume of Godscroft (1558-c.1630) was a major intellectual figure in Jacobean Scotland and the leading Scottish critic of the anglicizing policies of James VI. The tract was written in two parts. Published in London in 1605, the first part provides a general outline of the imperative of union. The second consists of political and constitutional proposals whereby such a union might be achieved. Its publication was suppressed and it exists only in manuscript. This is the first translation of the tract. Hume's work is breathtakingly contemporary in some of the proposals that it makes; regional assemblies combined with a national parliament, and a call for efforts to inspire the Scottish and English people into a sense of common purpose. The language and ideas of the tract display characteristics of the Renaissance combined with elements that visibly anticipate the Enlightenment. The De Unione offers extraordinary insight into the European intellectual world prior to the rise of romantic nationalism in the early nineteenth century.

The Privileges of Wealth investigates the impact of the rising concentration of wealth in the United States. It describes how households accumulate wealth along four pathways - household saving, appreciation of assets, family gifts and inheritances, and federal wealth policies – which operate as virtuous cycles for the rich and vicious circles for the poor. This book explains how these sources of wealth privilege are systemic features of our economy and the basis of rising disparities, particularly the racial wealth gap. The book offers a compelling case for how our current policies are undermining the American Dream for most Americans while fortifying a White plutocracy, with dire consequences.
