This volume in the AGARD Flight Test Techniques series treats stores ballistic modeling/testing from the overall system standpoint. All aspects of the ballistic testing design, data collection techniques, data reduction, analysis techniques, and finally the Operational Flight Program modeling techniques are addressed. Considerable effort has been expended to keep this report straightforward so that it can be understood by management as well as engineering personnel, but with sufficient engineering principles addressed so that a true ballistician could use it from an application perspective.

The demonstration example revealed no appreciable performance difference between the time-invariant and time-invariant and time-varying optimal controllers for the weapon delivery process. The contribution matrix of an iron bomb indicated that the major contributors to the CEP are the velocity and the attitude-state errors at release. (Author).

In order to determine whether the weapon delivery accuracy of an aircraft for which the aerodynamic stability derivatives were not known could be estimated, the strafing performance of an unspecified foreign tactical fighter was analyzed. The stability derivatives were estimated from the physical characteristics of the aircraft using standard stability and control methods. Also, by the use of classical control theory, the probable control system of the aircraft was formulated. Then, with an analytical pilot model in the aircraft's control loop, the tracking error was estimated and combined with other pilot-induced errors in a statistical model which predicts impact errors.
