Have we over complicated, over systematized, and over formalized making disciples? When our hearts are changed by Christ, it’s natural that we should want to help others come to know Him too. And while Scripture clearly sets forth how to do so, modern Western society has formalized, professionalized, and systemized disciplemaking to a point that it seems too complicated to practice. What happened to the simple, heart-to-heart ministries of the New Testament? In Walk with Me, you’ll return to the essential biblical practices that help people grow as Christ-followers in simple, slow, and deep ways. Learn how you can connect with your neighbors, coworkers, or anyone you want to reach with the gospel in ways that are relational and Spirit-led. You’ll learn five kingdom principles that will reshape how you can pass on the faith: In heart-to-heart ways By keeping it simple By going slow By building deep By living on mission

A simple, imaginative story depicting the complex emotional reality of a girl whose father no longer lives at home. The girl conjures up an imaginary companion — a lion — who will join her on the long walk home from school. He will help her to pick up her baby brother from daycare and shop at the store (which has cut off the family’s credit), and he’ll keep her company all along the way until she is safely home. He will always come back when she needs him, unlike her father whom she sees only in a photograph — a photograph in which he clearly resembles a lion. She was born the 20th child in a family that had lived in the Mississippi Delta for generations, first as enslaved people and then as sharecroppers. She left school at 12 to pick cotton, as those before her had done, in a world in which white supremacy was an unassailable citadel. She was subjected without her consent to an operation that deprived her of children. And she was denied the most basic of all rights in Americathe right to cast a ballotin a state in which Blacks constituted nearly half the population. And so Fannie Lou Hamer lifted up her voice. Starting in the early 1960s and until her death in 1977, she was an irresistible force, not merely joining the swelling wave of change brought by civil rights but keeping it in motion. Working with the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), which recruited her to help with voter-registration drives, Hamer became a community organizer, women's rights activist, and co-founder of the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party. She summoned and used what she had against the citadelher anger, her courage, her faith in the Bible, and her conviction that hearts could be won over and injustice overcome. She used her brutal beating at the hands of Mississippi police, an ordeal from which she never fully recovered, as the basis of a televised speech at the 1964 Democratic Convention, a speech that the mainstream partyincluding its standard-bearer, President Lyndon Johnsontried to contain. But Fannie Lou Hamer would not be held back. For those whose lives she touched and transformed, for those who heard and followed her voice, she was the embodiment of protest, perseverance, and, most of all, the potential for revolutionary change. Kate Clifford Larson's biography of Fannie Lou Hamer is the most complete ever written, drawing on recently declassified sources on both Hamer and the civil rights movement, including unredacted FBI and Department of Justice files. It also makes full use of interviews with Civil Rights activists conducted by the Smithsonian and the Library of Congress, and Democratic National Committee archives, in addition to extensive conversations with Hamer's family and with those with whom she worked most closely. Stirring, immersive, and authoritative, Walk with Me does justice to Fannie Lou Hamer's life, capturing in full the spirit, and the voice, that led the fight for freedom and equality in America at its critical moment.

On January 18, 2021, the world lost one of its great souls. Dr. James "Jim" Milton Pitts, former chaplain at Furman University. This book honoring Jim was conceived in conversations between Cecil Staton and John Adams shortly after Jim's passing. Both thought it was important to convene a chorus of voices to celebrate his life and influence. Here you will find reflections from colleagues, academics, pastors, civil rights leaders, students, friends, and even those who shared Jim's love of circuses and trains. There are many common themes, but collectively these memories, reflections, and essays portray a remarkable life invested in others through his subtle and sometimes not so subtle influences, which have changed lives and even the world. In these essays, we hope you will laugh, cry, and receive inspiration as you reflect on the enormous impact of Jim's life. Often, Jim would ask students visiting him in his office to "walk with me." While that often meant a stroll across campus with Jim, it is also symbolic of Jim's invitational approach to ministry and relationships. In a sense, we invite readers to walk with each of us as we reflect on the life of a unique friend who had such a profound influence. Thus Walk with Me is the main title of this book.

Walk with Me is a story about the transformative power of friendship. In friendship, we feel accepted, valued, and understood. This is the story of two people from different walks of life who discovered they were more alike than different. Ultimately, they realize that it is the love of God that transforms us into being who we are created to be; beacons of hope and love. This story, contemporary and compelling, calls the reader to look introspectively into how daily decisions form our families and neighborhoods, stretching to our global community. Walk with Me probes the social questions of our time in how we view and sometimes refuse to see our neighbors, while oftentimes loudly professing a Christian platform for living. Ultimately it is our actions that speak loudest. Walk with Me, takes an honest, hard look at who we profess to be, who our actions reflect we are, and who we are called to be. It addresses racism and the challenging social issues of our time through the eyes of love and responsibility. Walk with Me is a book that will make you laugh and cry and create a desire to seek the very best in each day you are given.
