Download Victory Over Nazism Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
This third edition of the book of writings by and about Bronia Sonnenschein (by many contributors) is over a hundred pages longer than the second edition, and contains over a hundred photos. It traces Bronia's life from her early days of a happy life in Vienna, through the Nazi annexation of Austria and the following years of persecution, slave labor, and horror in such places as the Lodz Ghetto, Auschwitz, Stutthof, and Dresden. The book continues with the rebuilding of her life, first in Prague and then in Vancouver, Canada, where she lived from 1950 until her death in 2011. As a single mother upon the untimely death of her husband soon after they arrived in Vancouver, she worked hard to provide for her two children. After retirement from her job, she became a volunteer, eventually embarking on a 21-year, late-life career as a Holocaust educator, making a tremendous impact on thousands of students, as well as many teachers and members of the public. The book contains articles and comments from all these types of people, who learned much from her and greatly admired her. It also includes some of the correspondence she had with Holocaust survivors and scholars, including Viktor Frankl, Simon Wiesenthal, Martin Gilbert, Robert Krell, and Alan Adelson. An epilog contains the moving eulogy by historian Chris Friedrichs, and tributes by others who deeply respected Bronia. The book concludes with a section of detailed notes and an extensive bibliography.
