PRESENTED AT THE SAME TIME. REPORT OF THE DIRECTORS. Since the last annual meeting of the Stockholders, the agreement between this Corporation and the Western Railroad Corporation, determining the principles for the regulation of the joint business on the line of the two Railroads, has been renewed, with some modifications, for a further period of three years from June next, and until it shall be terminated by notice from either party, of its dissent to its further continuance, to be given in writing to the other party, six months previous to such termination. In pursuance of a similar provision of the former agreement, notice was given on the 8th of September last, by the Directors of the Western Railroad, of their desire to terminate that agreement on the expiration of six months from that date; and in consequence, conferences were held between committees of the two Companies, for entering into a new contract. The conferences terminated in an arrangement, which was ratified by the two Boards, consisting substantially of a renewal of the stipulations of the former agreement, but with two modifications of some importance, advantageous to tins Corporation. The former agreement having been based on a concession, by this Corporation, of a rule of partition of expenses and income on the joint business, more favorable to the Western Road, than an equal division, in proportion to the distance of transportation on their respective roads, on the ground that that Company was entitled to a...
