For the first time, both parts of Transition are under one cover! "Transition: Part One - A Comics Artist is Formed" is the true story of how I grew up with comics, abandoned them, and then returned to them and decided to start self-publishing! "Transition: Part Two - The Best of All Possible Worlds" describes the secret origins of my minicomic PHASE 7, as well as many of the things I learned in my first 4 years of self-publishing. This book secretly contains many useful tips on how to start your own comic book, distribute it and get involved in the comics community!

This collection reprints five issues of Alec Longstreth's minicomic Phase 7 in their entirety: #012 is a stick figure science fiction story about a college and the barcode system it uses to keep track of its students. #013 reprints a comics essay in which the idea of everyday art is explored throughout art history. #014 is a facsimile of the sketchbook that Longstreth took on his first trip to Europe, for the 2009 Angoulême comics festival in France. It includes an account of his trip and many observational drawings created while traveling. #015 and #016 are comprised of selections from Longstreth's many sketchbooks, starting in 1995 and working up to 2008. Various quick drawings and loose diary comics reveal the cartoonist's struggles with relationships, employment, education and his future. All of these issues were released while Longstreth was focused on drawing his graphic novel Basewood, hence the title "B-Sides."

Recently, interacting particle systems have been studied widely from the standpoints of mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology. Many researchers are becoming interested in this field. This book focuses on the phase transitions of interacting particle systems, especially their critical values and order parameters. It poses the following question: How can we get good bounds on the critical values and the order parameters? This question is very basic, and many researchers have been trying to get better bounds rigorously. Hence the book provides bounds ? both the author's and others'.

The concept of periodization is not new, with the precursors of periodized training dating back more than 2,000 years ago. But it is now obvious that the holistic development of an athlete encompasses more than their physical and tactical training. Scientific Foundations and Practical Applications of Periodization is the first book of its kind designed to optimize sport performance by integrating both classic and modern periodization theories with recovery methodologies, nutritional interventions, and athlete monitoring guidelines. Written by G. Gregory Haff, a world-leading expert on periodization, Scientific Foundations and Practical Applications of Periodization incorporates the latest scientific evidence to provide a comprehensive understanding of how to implement planning and programming strategies to enhance physiological adaptations. While other periodization books may discuss training theory, few provide information on how to integrate various training models into the periodization process. Here are just some of the approaches incorporated into Scientific Foundations and Practical Applications of Periodization: Employing and blending parallel, sequential, and emphasis periodization models to develop athletes Syncing recovery strategies with various phases and periods of training to enhance the adaptational process Manipulating nutritional strategies to magnify performance Using and interpreting monitoring data to adjust an athlete’s program in accordance with the periodized plan Applicable for athletes at all levels and in any sport, Scientific Foundations and Practical Applications of Periodization translates the latest research into usable information that directly enhances programming. You will have access to real-world, practical examples and discussions of how to make scientifically sound programming decisions. A glossary of over 400 terms will help you digest the content. Plus, you will find periodization templates and directions on how to use them to create annual training, mesocycle, and microcycle plans. Templates are provided online via HKPropel to help you easily design periodized programs. Get the most comprehensive resource about periodization ever written, and use scientific evidence to take your periodization programming to the next level with Scientific Foundations and Practical Applications of Periodization. Earn continuing education credits/units! A continuing education exam that uses this book is also available. It may be purchased separately or as part of a package that includes both the book and exam. Note: A code for accessing HKPropel is not included with this ebook but may be purchased separately.

Investigations into the zero-temperature phases in various frustrated and random Ising models in a transverse or tunnelling field have caught attention very recently in the context of quantum magnetisation of glasses and other frustrated systems. This book gives a detailed discussion of the various theoretical techniques developed for the study of transverse Ising models and of the results of these studies with regular and random frustration, dilution, randomness, etc. Recent developments in the studies on their (quantum) relaxational dynamics, such as in quantum hysteresis, are also treated. The detailed presentation of original results and the reviews given here are expected to inspire further research in the exciting field of quantum many-body systems with randomness and frustration.

Soft-Switching Technology for Three-phase Power Electronics Converters Discover foundational and advanced topics in soft-switching technology, including ZVS three-phase conversion In Soft-Switching Technology for Three-phase Power Electronics Converters, an expert team of researchers delivers a comprehensive exploration of soft-switching three-phase converters for applications including renewable energy and distribution power systems, AC power sources, UPS, motor drives, battery chargers, and more. The authors begin with an introduction to the fundamentals of the technology, providing the basic knowledge necessary for readers to understand the following articles. The book goes on to discuss three-phase rectifiers and three-phase grid inverters. It offers prototypes and experiments of each type of technology. Finally, the authors describe the impact of silicon carbide devices on soft-switching three-phase converters, studying the improvement in efficiency and power density created via the introduction of silicon carbide devices. Throughout, the authors put a special focus on a family of zero-voltage switching (ZVS) three-phase converters and related pulse width modulation (PWM) schemes. The book also includes: A thorough introduction to soft-switching techniques, including the classification of soft-switching for three phase converter topologies, soft-switching types and a generic soft-switching pulse-width-modulation known as Edge-Aligned PWM A comprehensive exploration of classical soft-switching three-phase converters, including the switching of power semiconductor devices and DC and AC side resonance Practical discussions of ZVS space vector modulation for three-phase converters, including the three-phase converter commutation process In-depth examinations of three-phase rectifiers with compound active clamping circuits Perfect for researchers, scientists, professional engineers, and undergraduate and graduate students studying or working in power electronics, Soft-Switching Technology for Three-phase Power Electronics Converters is also a must-read resource for research and development engineers involved with the design and development of power electronics.
