There has been a tremendous growth in the use of various kinds of training films and other visual aids as a result of the war. This has been one of the most noteworthy developments in education in recent years. The training films produced during the war cannot be wholly understood apart from the situation that caused their development. The training problem at the outset of the war was unprecedented. More people had to be trained better and faster than ever before. The Division of Visual Aids for War Training, U.S. Office of Education, was established to produce films specifically designed to assist in solving this training problem. A significant library of films in those trades and skills where the training was most critically needed was developed for this purpose. Since the skills required in industry are little different in war or peace, these films will continue to be effective in the long-term program of education. This publication is a record of the work and accomplishments of the Office of Education war training visual aid production program. It is hoped that a study of these pages will bring about a better understanding of the problems involved in the production of effective instructional films and that research will be stimulated which will increase our knowledge of the role of visual aids in the curriculum. Appended is a list of 457 U.S. Office of Education motion pictures for industrial and vocational training. (Contains 1 footnote.) [Best copy available has been provided.].
