To counter global warming and ozone layer depletion, in recent times a lot of alternative refrigeration methods have been proposed. Elastocaloric effect, a solid state cooling technology, is one of the most recent and potential ones to phase-out traditional vapor compression cooling systems. In this work, an elastocaloric system based on superelastic Nickel-Titanium has been proposed. A proven mathematical material model has been used to predict various design parameters for such a system. The heat transfer characteristics of the model have been modified to accommodate the use of water as the heat transfer fluid. The effect of strain rate on achieving the elastocaloric effect is also been explored. Finally, performance parameters of the system are calculated and compared to the conventional systems.
