This book examines the theological foundations of a collaborative approach to Christian ministry. The discovery that Christians are members 'one of another' creates energy and joy in ministry and empowers the Church in an age of mission. Outlining the present challenges for ministry, Stephen Pickard offers an historical perspective on ministry over the last century; develops a theory of collaborative ministry based on a dialogue between theology and science; and explores some implications of collaborative ministry for lay and ordained people of the Church. This book breaks new ground in its theory of collaborative ministry through a dialogue with the sciences of emergence. It also offers fresh insights on important texts in ministry; relationships between Christology, pneumatology and ministry; a relational ontology of ministry; episcopacy, ecumenism, ordination vows and wisdom for team ministry.

Contemporary mission and ministry, as well as best practice in secular government, emphasize partnership and working together. Yet this can be easier said than done. At its best, working together brings energy and synergy and enables you to achieve something you could never do alone. At its worst, it's a nightmare that you may well wish you had never got into. Skills for Collaborative Ministry will help you to work more effectively with other people, both inside and outside of the Church. Each chapter focuses on a particular skill - such as team building, facilitation, diversity skills, conflict resolution and evaluation techniques - outlines the theory and the theology behind it, and gives practical guidance and advice. Written by an experienced team, the book includes exercises for both individuals and groups, along with a range of ideas that can be adapted to your own context. It will enable you to work collaboratively with confidence and skill.

The research is designed to understand the essential characteristics of human flourishing for marginalized women and children, key dynamics for church-based collaborative ministries, and the functions of church and civic leaders toward encouraging human flourishing. The study arose from the desire to develop church-based collaborative ministries that would encourage the flourishing of marginalized women and children in the Kabale District. The study was guided by four conceptual frameworks: human flourishing, eight dimensions of wellness, transformational development, and the biblical foundations for collaborative ministries. The conceptual frameworks provided insights from different perspectives which led me to understand marginality as a multicausal phenomenon and its negative effect on women's and children’s flourishing. As a result, I designed a change strategy which led me to implement a church-based collaborative ministry pilot project to promote human flourishing. The dissertation is divided into three major parts. In part one, the background and related literature were reviewed, and in part two the field research study was conducted to better understand the functions of church and civic leaders towards establishing church-based collaborative ministries (CBCM) and the key essential dynamics for successful CBCM. The data was collected and analyzed and the functions of church and civic leaders towards establishing CBCM and key essential dynamics of successful CBCM were identified. In part three the contextual and organizational leadership analysis was done which led to the development of a systemic change strategy. This dissertation provides strategies to establish successful CBCM between church and civic leaders in the Kabale District. New strategies and best practices to establish CBCM are being explored as the pilot project is implemented and evaluated. The lessons learned are being shared and recommendations are made to leaders who wish to establish CBCM in other parts of Uganda.

New in this 2016 edition: " An additional chapter of new material." " Example Team Descriptions." "Collaborative Ministry" has become a 'buzz phrase' in the church, following on from phrases such as 'every member ministry' and 'the priesthood of all believers'. It is referred to by those who speak and write about leadership, the Church and outreach, but what exactly does it mean? And does it fit with existing leadership structures? This book comprehensively explores the theology and practice of this style of 'being church', considering the implications for churches both large and small. A central section provides foundational Bible studies, unpacking the themes of authority, acceptance and covenant, while an appendix of group study material offers help for churches considering a collaborative approach. "Collaborative Ministry; What it is, how it works and why" was first published by BRF in 2007. This second edition includes a newly written section for 2016 with an additional chapter of more recent insights and example" Team Descriptions." David Robertson is the vicar of Christ Church, South Ossett. He has ministered in rural, suburban and urban deprived areas, developing collaborative ministry for the past 30 years in three very different parts of the country. Reviews 'Intelligently biblical, spiritually wise, challenging and perceptive.' Canon Dr Jeremy Duff, Director of Lifelong Learning, Liverpool Diocese. 'David Robertson takes us to the theological heart of the matter by reminding us that collaborative ministry, properly understood, is about grace.' The Rt Revd Colin Bennetts, Bishop of Coventry 1998-2008.

Capitol Hill Baptist Church associate pastor Michael Lawrence contributes to the IXMarks series as he centers on the practical importance of biblical theology to ministry. He begins with an examination of a pastor's tools of the trade: exegesis and biblical and systematic theology. The book distinguishes between the power of narrative in biblical theology and the power of application in systematic theology, but also emphasizes the importance of their collaboration in ministry. Having laid the foundation for pastoral ministry, Lawrence uses the three tools to build a biblical theology, telling the entire story of the Bible from five different angles. He puts biblical theology to work in four areas: counseling, missions, caring for the poor, and church/state relations. Rich in application and practical insight, this book will equip pastors and church leaders to think, preach, and do ministry through the framework of biblical theology.

This project utilizes the revitalization efforts of Grace Community Church in Winchester, VA to examine the precedence of collaborative strategies for church revitalization. In this study contemporary literature, theological foundations, surveys of church leaders in the United States, and interviews with collaborative church and ministry leaders from around the United States are evaluated to determine the need for greater collaboration for the health and revitalization of church and ministries. The findings of this research argue that contemporary church growth strategies that emerged from the recent church growth movement may actually inhibit church revitalization efforts by imposing isolating strategies and limiting community engagement. This thesis contends that implementing collaborative strategies among churches perpetuates church revitalization and has a positive impact on the missional reach into the community.
