'The Cadre' claims to have Christ's body preserved and hidden in an ancient tomb. For journalist Art 'Mac' Mackenzie, the scenario smacks of an alien agenda. He determines to unearth the truth at any cost. But the Cadre doesn't surrender its secrets easily. Mac's former editor, Jim Cranston, has been found wandering among the ruins of Machu Picchu with burns on his body and in a constant state of fear. Worse yet, General Roswell, Mac's inside connection in the secret government-alien cooperative, is dead of cancer. However, Roswell has left behind two potential bombshells: a set of files with far-reaching implications, and a link to the aliens that he has kept secret for years. With Mac hot on Roswell's trail, the Cadre moves forward with its agenda: to convince the world that Jesus was just an ordinary man granted miracle-working powers by the aliens. The Cadre must be stopped before they can publicly unveil the fraudulent body of Christ, an event that could precipitate a global and apocalyptic shock wave. Mac is swept into a race against time in which losing is not an option . . . but winning could cost him all.

As a director, actor, writer and producer, Tod Browning was one of the most dynamic Hollywood figures during the birth of commercial cinema. Known for his fantastic collaborations with Lon Chaney in numerous silents, and for directing the horror classic Dracula and the still-controversial Freaks, Browning has been called "the Edgar Allan Poe of the cinema." Despite not entering the profession until he began acting in his early thirties, he went on to helm more than 60 films in a 25-year career. His work continues to influence directors such as David Lynch, John Waters, and Alejandro Jodorowsky. These essays critically explore such topics as the connection between Browning, Poe and Kant; Browning's cinematic techniques; disability; masochism; sound and suspense; duality; parenthood; narrative and cinematic trickery; George Melford; surrealism; and the occult. A Browning filmography is included.

We may say that honesty is the best policy, but history—to say nothing of business, politics, and the media—suggests otherwise. In this infinitely citable book, the author of two bestselling treasuries of scandal recounts some of the greatest deceptions of all time. With what forged document did the Vatican lay claim to much of Europe? Who wrote Hitler’s diaries? Why do millions still believe the vague doggerel that Nostradamus passed off as prophecy? Organizing his material by theme (con artists, the press, military trickery, scientific fraud, imposters, great escapes, and more), Michael Farquhar takes in everything from the hoodwinking of Hitler to Vincent “the Chin” Gigante’s thirty-year crazy act. A Treasury of Deception is a zestful, gossipy exposé—and celebration—of mendacity. A Treasury of Deception also includes: Ten tricksters from scripture Ten great liars in literature Ten egregious examples of modern American doublespeak Ten classic deceptions from Greek mythology

More than ever we live in the reality of 2 Thessalonians 2, which refers to the great falling away or rebellion. The Greek word translated as “rebellion” or “falling away” in verse 3 of the Scripture is apostasia, from which we get the English word apostasy. It refers to a general defection from the true God, the Bible, and the Christian faith. In such perilous times of deception and spiritual corruption, a great need exists to seek the Lord, to follow His will, to obey His truths and to follow His narrow path of holiness. To restore the altar is truly to be a living sacrifice in service of God – a servant who will not compromise with the world and who seeks to only glorify God above all.

It is widely recognized by New Testament scholars that many of the sayings and actions attributed to Jesus in the gospels cannot be factually traced to him. To a considerable degree, these stories have been influenced, or even created, by the early church. Despite this gap between the "Jesus of history" and the "Christ of faith," the contemporary church continues to represent the traditional New Testament canon as a generally accurate record of the life of Jesus. The Great Deception exposes the dangers that accompany this disingenuous, unscientific approach and calls for a more rigorous treatment of the gospels. In a clear, straightforward narrative, Gerd Lüdemann establishes the criteria by which he believes it possible to distinguish inauthentic from authentic sayings and actions of Jesus, and then shows which quotes and deeds can be regarded as factual. His radical conclusion is that the Jesus of history, who emerges after the falsehoods attributed to him are pared away, cannot support the traditional Christian faith. Lüdemann's historical analysis reveals, nonetheless, a Jesus who remains a deeply sympathetic personality and one of the great religious figures of the world. But it also shows that Christian leaders who ignore the results of sound scholarship are selling the faithful a "great deception."
