Excerpt from The Registers of Edlingham, in the County of Northumberland: Baptisms, 1658-1812; Marriages, 1658-1812; Burials, 1658-1812 Of the church dedicated to St. John Baptist, the features of the west wall of the nave are characteristic of pre-conquest work, while the south and east walls of the nave, with the porch, may be ascribed to the first half of the twelfth century. Excerpt from The Registers of Eglingham, in the County of Northumberland: Baptisms, 1662-1812; Marriages, 1663-1812; Burials, 1662-1812 Previous to the Reformation there were four Chapels dependent on the Church of Eglingham. They were situated at Old Bewick, West Lilburn, Brandon, and Wooperton; each had a graveyard attached to it. The Norman Chapel of Old Bewick was repaired in 1867, and services are regularly held there; at West Lilburn interments occasionally take place, and there are some interesting fragments of masonry; at Brandon nothing remains except the graveyard, which has been disused since 1820; at Wooperton the site of the Chapel-yard, which comprises three roods, had been ploughed out, but was reclaimed by a former Vicar. Since the year 1843 the Vicarage of Eglingham has been annexed to the Archdeaconry of Lindisfarne. The Registers of Baptisms and Burials date from 1662; those of marriages from 1663. The Banns Book of Eglingham commencing in 1754 has been compared with the Marriage Registers. Entries relating to people whose Banns were called at Eglingham Church, but who were not married there, are given on pages 104-109. Where the entry is illegible, or where there is no entry at all, I have indicated it by [blank], and where any doubt as to the name existed, by a query.
