From the star of Magnolia Network’s popular show Ranch to Table—a stunningly beautiful cookbook celebrating a year on a ranch on the California coast, featuring simple yet festive recipes, inspiring menus, and fascinating culture and history. Elizabeth Poett was raised on Rancho San Julian, a 14,000-acre ranch on Santa Barbara’s Central Coast that her family has been working since 1837. Her years are structured around the land’s natural rhythms and annual events: celebrations big and small, harvests, and work days that bring her family and community together—and always end with large meals for everyone to share. Elizabeth feeds her friends and family with seasonal ingredients—including vegetables and meat grown and raised on the ranch and fish from California’s Central Coast—barbecuing tri-tips, turning local cod into tacos, and using heirloom tomatoes and summery eggplant into delicious, family friendly pastas. Much like Elizabeth’s life, The Ranch Table is also organized around the work and celebrations that take place on the San Julian throughout the year, giving readers and cooks a chance to dive into the ranch’s most important workdays, family traditions big and small, and annual celebrations. Each chapter begins with a description of an event or a special day—the work of a branding, the joys of the annual family reunion, the fun of a fall cider press, the quiet beauty of a winter evening spent at the kitchen table—and invites you to join in on the day with both beautiful photos of the ranch today and archival images of its past. In each chapter, Elizabeth also shares the recipes for the dishes she makes for these occasions, including: Spring, Branding Day Pistachio Breakfast Bread Onion-Braised Brisket Sliders Fudgy Caramel Brownies Summer, Fiesta Family Reunion Beef Empanadas Blackberry Margaritas Fall, Cider Press Potluck Turkey Barley Soup Spiced Honey Apple Pie with a Ginger Crust Winter, New Year’s Eve Chanterelles with Toast Standing Rib Roast Green Salad with Winter Fruit and Citrus Dressing The Ranch Table is an invitation to explore a unique California way of life and enjoy delicious, hearty, seasonal meals, made to be enjoyed with family and friends.

Cooking, the process of preparing food for consumption with heat. Cooking is basically as old as development itself, and spectators have seen it as both a workmanship and a science. Its diversity and traditions reflect distinct social, cultural, and environmental influences, and its history sheds light on the very beginnings of human settlement. The development of cooking up until the emergence of national cuisines is traced in the following article. From Our Ranch to Your Table: Hey ya'll! I'm Paige Murray. A lot has changed since the release of Southern Fried Skinnyfied several years ago. I'm now married to Ty Murray, the King of Cowboys. I also became a step-mom to Kase and a mom to Oakley. My recipes have become more family oriented and are perfect for an ongoing healthy lifestyle you can maintain. This isn't a cookbook for a short-term diet. Instead I cook the way nature intended with fresh produce, whole grains, healthy fats and meats. I'm from Lancaster, South Carolina but now call the TY Ranch in Stephenville, Texas home. I brought my cowboy boots and my love of food, cooking, fitness and nutrition with me. I took my favorite southern foods and added my own touch keeping health in mind, what I call Southern Fried Skinnyfied. I also learned to cook flavorful New Mexican and cowboy dishes that remind Ty of home. I'm not a chef and prefer stress-free recipes, you know the kind you find in your Granny's church cookbooks. These recipes are simple, wholesome and scrumptious. It's your everyday cookbook! Eating healthfully should go hand in hand with eating pleasurably. Of course I had to include just a couple of my favorite childhood dessert recipes too for those special occasions.I've also included some recipes that we love from our family and friends. To me, a passed-down recipe goes far beyond a meal. It evokes memories of that person and feelings of love, comfort, joy and excitement. Recipes are a way to preserve our heritage as well as a part of ourselves and the gatherings in the kitchen that make us who we are. I share photos of each person who shared a recipe with me. I also include photos we've taken of the ranch to give you a feel of what it's like to live on a real, working ranch. Hopefully these photos and recipes will allow you to create meals that are a meaningful experience.

"Chef Matthew Wendel provides a first-hand account of his years working for President George W. Bush and his family at Camp David and at their Texas home on Prairie Chapel Ranch. He offers a collection of recipes, photographs, stories, and memories of daily life as senior advance representative in the Office of Presidential Advance and as the personal chef and personal assistant to the president. Included with recipes of the author's signature hot cinnamon rolls and fried chicken are the Bush family's favorite dishes, meals that world leaders were served, and a behind-the-scenes look at how he prepared for head of state visits and shopped for the first family. Wendel's account reveals a unique window into the hard work, detail, and protocol involved in working for the first family and reveals how the president welcomed world leaders using both his home and the power of sharing a meal in an intimate setting as a bridge-building diplomatic tool. Smoked beef tenderloin, stacked enchiladas, hot rolls, soups, and plenty of fresh salads were staples for the Bushes, but cheeseburgers became a tradition for their luncheons with world leaders at Prairie Chapel Ranch. Providing wholesome, delicious, comforting food to guests was their way of saying "Welcome. We're glad you are here." -- Amazon.com.

In her 39th best-selling novel, Danielle Steel brings to life the story of three women, old roommates from college, who come together after twenty years, one summer at The Ranch. They had been inseparable in college, Mary Stuart, Tanya, and Zoe. But in the more than twenty years that followed, the three had moved on with their lives, settled in different cities, and found successful careers and new roles as mothers and wives. By chance, each would find herself alone for a few weeks one summer, wrestling with the present and the past. At a sprawling ranch in the foothills of Wyoming's Grand Teton Range, the three women come together and find courage, healing, and truth, and reach out to each other once again. Despite the honesty they once shared, now pretense between them runs high. Mary Stuart Walker, married for twenty-two years to a Manhattan lawyer, kept herself busy with volunteer work, and now masks the loneliness that consumes her life. A year has past, and Mary Stuart still hasn't gotten over the guilt, or the fear that her husband will never forgive her for their son's death... Tanya Thomas, an award winning singer and rock star, enjoys all the trappings of fame and success--a mansion in Bel Air, legions of fans, and a broken heart. All the Grammy awards in the world can't make up for the children she wanted but never had, the men who have taken advantage of her, and just gone along for the ride, and still are... Dr. Zoe Phillips has her hands full as a single mother to an adopted two-year-old, and as a doctor at an AIDS clinic in San Francisco. Predictably, as they all know, she is as liberal as she ever was, and marriage was never a dream she coveted or shared with them. Tending to her patients is a full-time job that leaves Zoe little time for herself--until unexpected news forces her to reevaluate both her future, and her current life. But despite the changes in their lives, their friendship is still a bond they all treasure and share. For each of the women, a few weeks at the ranch will bring healing and release, as old hurts are buried, ancient secrets revealed, and love replaced or renewed. In The Ranch, bestselling novelist Danielle Steel brings reality to the meaning of friendship, with dramas whose truths we all share.
