In the heart of the city, where the relentless hum of traffic and the cacophony of human life created a perpetual din, stood an old, gothic building. Its gargoyles, frozen in eternal grimace, seemed to guard the secrets hidden within its crumbling walls. It was here, in the dusty, forgotten attic, that whispers of a phantom poet first began to circulate. The building, a looming structure of weathered stone and intricate ironwork, had stood for over a century. Its spires reached towards the sky like gnarled fingers, and its windows, some cracked and others boarded up, reflected the city's lights in eerie patterns. The locals called it the "Inkwell," a nickname born from its long-standing association with the written word and the dark mysteries that seemed to seep from its very foundations. The Inkwell was home to the city's oldest newspaper, the Daily Chronicle. Founded in 1872, the Chronicle had been a witness to the city's transformation from a modest port town to a sprawling metropolis. Its pages had chronicled wars, economic booms and busts, technological revolutions, and the ever-changing face of society. The newspaper itself was a relic of a bygone era, stubbornly clinging to tradition in a world increasingly dominated by digital media. Inside, the building was a labyrinth of narrow corridors, creaking staircases, and rooms filled with the musty scent of old paper and ink. The basement housed ancient printing presses, now silent and covered in dust, but still bearing testament to the newspaper's illustrious history. The ground floor bustled with activity, a stark contrast to the quiet upper floors where time seemed to move at a different pace. It was a place steeped in history, where the echoes of bygone eras seemed to linger in the shadows. Every corner held a story, every creaking floorboard a secret. The staff, a mix of seasoned veterans and fresh-faced rookies, often spoke in hushed tones about the building's peculiarities – the elevator that sometimes took you to floors that didn't exist, the whispers heard in empty rooms, and the inexplicable cold spots that defied explanation.

SR - 71 The world lost it's pull again as I dreamed so real, this lucidity it seemed going gray, getting dark the meaning of life, losing benchmark. Earthly horizon plummeting back and away memory rushing back inside the replay I'll clarify if I can, describing my flight It went something like this. . inside the dream that night. Far from the known world in suspended animation to the colorful blur. . life meaningless in relation so hold on now, to what I say the SR-71 dream went this way. . I feel the vibration. .then it stops then decompression in dreaming the hissing drops thought and memories falling away as gravity is slipping silently astray. Horizon falling beneath cirrus cloud lining what would happen if, I keep right on climbing? Idea of a plan now in my head no longer a man asleep in bed- but hurtling along the ozone ceiling mach 2 cancelling pain from this hurt I was feeling. Icy and deep, the color atmospheric blue panic setting in from what I've talked myself into. Quasar of sunlight in the window shining twin engines two-thirds. .softly whining color, smell, monochrome corona faded. . to my disbelief, the lucid dream re-created! Darkening aura of backdrop blue climbing sixteen degrees, with the stars in clear view! This rampant idea planned all the way through as if I thought I could try, or had the guts to. . Floating feeling . .I glance down. .MACH 4 Permanent waves on a temporary shore I repeat to myself. .you no longer care! That was you, you're here. . no longer down there! Window for re-entry fading fast. . my life before me rushing past thumb at the red cover of the "AFTERBURNER" switch life and death chiming in. .final score? Life's A BITCH !! Backed against my own sonic boom I gambled this dream to seal my tomb. I feel the thrust. .slammed back in the seat no more re-entry control to defeat! Polarized. .synchronized. .no more memories for I've passed my pilot's test if you please! No more going back to pain and doubt the twin engines flicker . .then flare out ! pilot AWOL and unaware . . as the stars shine in my teary stare. . so this is how it all ends I think to myself You're almost out of. . . AIR.

2019 Button Poetry Prize Runner-Up Dear Azula, I Have a Crush on Danny Phantom is a crossover of our coming of age universes. Exploring the interplay of adolescence and media, Dear Azula is a masterclass on how Generation Z see themselves reflected on screen, how they find themselves in characters when the world does not grant them the possibility. These poems pay homage to the cartoon characters who made us the wicked lovestruck people that we are. These ubiquitous stories of teen ghost boys and water bending women gave wonder to a generation raised by recession. In illustrious villains we learned our own glamour. In chiseled chins and 2D teeth we learned desire. In Dear Azula, I Have a Crush on Danny Phantom we bring the early 2000s renaissance of animation into our modern lives to unpack, celebrate, revel, and remember.

The instant New York Times bestseller featured on NPR's Weekend Edition with Scott Simon! B. J. Novak (bestselling author of The Book With No Pictures) described this groundbreaking poetry collection as "Smart and sweet, wild and wicked, brilliantly funny--it's everything a book for kids should be." Lauded by critics as a worthy heir to such greats as Silverstein, Seuss, Nash and Lear, Harris's hilarious debut molds wit and wordplay, nonsense and oxymoron, and visual and verbal sleight-of-hand in masterful ways that make you look at the world in a whole new wonderfully upside-down way. With enthusiastic endorsements from bestselling luminaries such as Lemony Snicket, Judith Viorst, Andrea Beaty, and many others, this entirely unique collection offers a surprise around every corner. Adding to the fun: Lane Smith, bestselling creator of beloved hits like It's a Book and The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales, has spectacularly illustrated this extraordinary collection with nearly one hundred pieces of appropriately absurd art. It's a mischievous match made in heaven! "Ridiculous, nonsensical, peculiar, outrageous, possibly deranged--and utterly, totally, absolutely delicious. Read it! Immediately!" --Judith Viorst, bestselling author of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
