(Just Click on the "Sarah James" Above for More Christian Books) --------- The Overcoming Life by D.L. Moody is a collection of some of D.L. Moody's sermons. This collection is geared toward exactly what the title says, overcoming. Moody begins by telling us of the warfare a Christian faces, and how we can overcome it with God's help. Then he continues to speak of the one true Victor (Jesus Christ), and that with His power we can overcome. Moody speaks of many other aids in having the overcoming life, such as wisdom, humility, and rest. While The Overcoming Life is a book small in size it is by no means small in content. There is so much information to be digested that the reader should take his time reading it. Let Moody's ideas be digested and contemplated. Give yourself time to understand just how great The Overcoming Life can be, to be read and to live. This is not just a good read, but a great read. Scroll Up and Grab Your Copy! Also by D. L. Excerpt from The Possible Life: And Other Sermons It was never bluer than at the very moment when I was writing that a week ago, and the church bell was tolling with a sweet and lingering invitation which I did not heed. More worshipful for me to lift up mine eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help, to see the great white clouds trail ing their dusky shadows over them. And yet, again, the non-church-goer has the mighty poets, in their misery dead, it may be, but in their power and grace and helpful ness alive forevermore, and the great thinkers of the ages, the good books of many kinds, - one, very little known, called the New Testament, which contains the story of a man that is very helpful and inspiring, and as little like the old, old story of our traditional Christianity as one story can be like another. Excerpt from The Highway of Life: And Other Sermons Tion in pamphlet form of occasional sermons preached by the pastor of the church, Hugh Thomson Kerr, D.D. These sermons have been so heartily welcomed, both by the congregation and by the community, that the Committee on Men's Work is glad to have some of them pub lished in permanent form. They have been preached during what history is likely to pro nounce the most important years in the life of our nation, and local references and historical suggestions are allowed to stand as when first printed. Events move rapidly, and already new and important changes have taken place, but the religious message here contained abides forever. William M. Furey, Chairman of Committee on M en's W ark. Excerpt from Limitations of Life, and Other Sermons IT would neither be just to myself, nor compliment ary to those Who may become my readers, to say that these sermons have been chosen at random out of that pile of manuscripts Which is constantly accumulating in every minister's study, and Whose final destination is the fire. On the contrary, they have been deliber ately selected, not only because of the present and permanent importance of their subjects, but also and especially because, in the experience of many Who heard them, they were felt to be helpful to them in their prosecution of the Christian life. There is not a discourse here reproduced Which has not already been useful to some souls, and if, When preached thus through the press, that usefulness shall be widened, the great end of their publication Will be secured. Excerpt from The Divine Life in Man: And Other Sermons Often as any soul comes under the regenerating power of the gospel and is born into the kingdom. This is what is brought out with an almost start ling distinctness in the group of passages standing at the head of this discourse. Man, like God, is per sonal and spiritual. He has the source of his being in God. He has come into life in virtue of the breath Of God in his soul. He has a certain intel lectual and moral likeness to God; and by cultivation and discipline this likeness may be advanced till his thought and will reflect, in some measure, the thought and will of God, and all his movements and desires are in the direction of God. He may yield his whole nature - all his powers and faculties - up to the guid ance of God, and the current of an exalted fellow ship may flow back and forth between his heart and the heart Of God. Having fallen out of this fellow ship, and lost this divine life, through sin, he may yet find it again through faith in the Son of God, who came into the world for the express purpose of renewing men dead in trespasses and sins, and re storing the marred image in which they were made. He may have inward witness that God is his Father, and that he is God's child. He may know and eh joy God. These are general statements covering the case. The further development of the subject will be pro moted best by asking two or three questions. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
