In saying this, I have respect, not so much to his great and distinguished talents, - for I am aware, that from time to time men have appeared, whom the Creator has been pleased to endow With extraordinary mental powers and qualifica tions, - but rather to the use to which those talents were applied, and the consequences of such application. These lay open to us his heart, and reveal the spirit by which he was animated.
