"You nitwit!" These aren't Faye Wallace's last words, but they are the last ones her husband understands. A few hours later, Faye is dead, and Toby is a widower, beset by new and incomprehensible problems. Was Faye really leaving him, as his sister-in-law claims? Why do his daughters suddenly accuse him of behavior he can't even bring himself to imagine? Everyone seems to be misinterpreting him, including some of the long-time customers who patronize his shoe store. Through it all, his sister stands by him. Then she too appears to doubt him. Set in Massachusetts and California, Captain Nitwit is a gently comic but disturbing coming-of-age novel, encompassing the 55th year of a man to whom, until now, nothing much has happened

My book of stories and poems are taken from the lives of my family and friends. For the most part, they are the subjects that will cheer up those that are sad and think only they have had troubles in this life. I hope it will bring a smile to your face, and sometimes may you also laugh out loud. Many of the poems were written in the wee hours when I awakened with something on my mind that I thought would take a friend's troubles off her mind. Many are written on subjects suggested by those that I worked with. I decided to one day write this book because I think we all should leave a little bit of ourself for future generations to know what life was like when we felt free. You will notice that many of the poems are about freedom, love of country, and the desire to preserve that which our forefathers fought and died for when we claimed our birthright promised to Abraham. Happiness is also what I wish for those of you to find in my simple words of wisdom in the form of verse, If by chance you that read get half as much pleasure reading as I did writing, I feel I have accomplished what I set out to do.

In 1887 New York City, Nellie Bly has ambitions beyond writing for the ladies pages, but all the editors on Newspaper Row think women are too emotional, respectable and delicate to do the job. For months, rumors have been swirling about deplorable conditions at Blackwell’s but no reporter can get in—that is, until Nellie feigns insanity, gets herself committed and attempts to survive ten days in the madhouse. Once inside, Nellie befriends her fellow patients who help her uncover shocking truths about the asylum. It’s a story that promises to be explosive—but will she get out before rival reporters get the scoop? If Tommy Winter hadn't needed money so badly to continue his college education, it might all never have happened. But he did, and very badly indeed, so he advertised himself as a consulting psychologist for people who were afraid of losing their minds. Before long, his office is swamped with some of the craziest, looniest, wildest half-wits ever gathered in one place. It takes all his ingenuity, and the help of a friend, Steve, to keep things under control once the parade of nit-wits comes rolling in! A grand cast of characters in a completely nutty farce!

A panoramic, state-of-the-art handbook destined to chart a course for future work in the field of early modern Hispanic theater studies. It begins in the closet with an essay on Celestina as closet drama and moves out into the court to explore intersections with courtly love. An essay on the comedia and the classics demonstrates this genre’s firm grounding in the classical tradition, despite Lope de Vega’s famous protestations to the contrary. Distinct but related genres such as the autos sacramentales and the entremeses also make an appearance. The traditional themes of honor and wife-murder share the stage with less familiar topics like the incorporation of animals into performance. This volume covers the urban space of the city in Spain and Portugal as well as uncharted territories in the New World and Japan. Essays on emblems and the picaresque round out this anthology, along with studies of theatrical representations of early modern innovations in science and technology. The book concludes with two different psychoanalytical approaches, focused on melancholy and Lacanian tragedy, respectively. This collection incorporates the work of younger scholars along with established names in the field to synthesize the most exciting recent work on the comedia and related forms of early modern Hispanic theatrical production. Contributors include: Ignacio Arellano, Frederick de Armas, Henry Sullivan, Edward Friedman, A. Robert Lauer, Manuel Delgado, Adrienne Martín, Enrique García Santo Tomás, Matthew Stroud, Teresa Scott Soufas, Enrique Fernández, María Mercedes Carrión, Robert Bayliss, Ted Bergman, Cory Reed, Maryrica Lottman, Christina Lee, and Enrique Duarte.
