Excerpt from Four Wonderful Years: A Sketch of the Origin, Growth, and Working Plans of the Epworth League During the past year or two there has been an eager demand for reliable information touching the origin and growth of the Epworth League. Many letters have been received requesting us to supply the important data. The impracticability of writing the information for each applicant suggested the idea of preparing the material in our possession for general distribution. This little volume does not assume to be a history. It is too early for that. A comprehensive review of the Epworth League movement will be written some day, and the matter which we have gathered in the following pages will be of value to our future historian. We have aimed to tell the story of the organization and development of our League in the simplest possible manner, and to present only such facts as will be of practical use to our young people. The chapter on "Incidents and Impressions of the Cleveland Conference," written by representatives of the five original societies, will be found particularly interesting. The first four years of the Epworth League have been very blessed. But we are only starting. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Epworth League, Its Place in Methodism: A Manual HE Epvvorth League is a child of Provi dence3 That is to say, it is one of those providential movements which have character ized the history of the Christian Church, and are nowhere more apparent than in the rise and progress of Methodism. One ot our bishops has well said that the 1sth of May, 1889, with the results of its Cleveland Conference, will stand in Methodist history beside that Christmas-day of 1784, on which the Methodist Episcopal Church was organized. The Church was ripe for the Epworth League. Methodist condi tions demanded it. And when the fullness of time had come, quietly, and withal so suddenly as to be a surprise and wonder to most, it took its place in our Methodist household.
