Excerpt from The Georgia Eclectic Medical Journal, 1886, Vol. 7: Devoted to Liberal Medicine, Hygiene, and Sanitary Science This disease, as the name implies, is incident to child-birth, and I venture the assertion that one-half of those who die in child-bed are carried ofi' by septicaemia. Its causes are quite well known, and need not be enumerated here, but I regret to say that a successful treatment is not known to a large majority of the physicians of to-day, outside of the Eclectic ranks, nor do all of them understand how to treat it successfully. There fore, I will present a typical case that came under my obser vation some eighteen months ago, when on my way to a distant town, I was met on the cars at Sandy Lake by a physician, who said he desired me to stop off and see a patient he had a mile from the place. Upon promising to drive me to Mercer, my destination, twelve miles further, in time for an arbitration in which an Eclectic physician was concerned, I consented.
