This book is a history of a community, and, moreover, a history by that community. In January, 2007, Jeannine Turgeon began to recruit a committee of Bellevue Park neighbors, volunteers who would be willing to produce a book about their neighborhood in honor of its 100th anniversary. Initial members were Clark and Vickie Bucher, Dan Deibler and Elizabeth Johnson, Chris Dick, Frank Haas, Hannah Leavitt, Carol Lopus, Mo Lynn, Bonnie Mark, Debbie Nifong, Peggy and Dan Purdy, John Quimby, Sue Ellen Ramer, Olivia Susskind, Doris Ulsh, Phil and Mary Walsh, Mary Warner, and Gretchen Yarnall. Prof. Michael Barton of Penn State Harrisburg was invited to serve as a consultant and general editor for the project, and we selected Xlibris as our publisher. In these early months, outlines were organized and re-organized, topics were proposed and discarded, and suggestions of all sorts were submitted and accepted or reluctantly retracted to fit within the publisher’s limits and the book’s budget.

This volume provides insight into a baby's first twelve months. The editors help readers understand their role as parents, their baby's needs, and how they can best meet them. It provides practical guidelines on how and when to do things to aid all phases of a baby's development. They offer advice on such issues as gaining confidence as a parent, "reading" a baby's body language, and understanding a baby's unique personality. In addition, readers learn to recognize the developmental phases a baby goes through, so that they might provide the right kind of support at the right time.

Divorce can be brutal on your self-esteem, your psyche, and your emotional well-being. It is a hard-hitting, tough experience in which so much of your existence is tested and questioned. In The Gifts of My Divorce, author K. K. Chappell examines her ten-year relationship with her ex and narrates how she survived the first year of the break-up. The Gifts of My Divorce is a story about growth and change, describing how Chappell and her son navigate their way through the first year alone. It is the story of her journey through the labyrinth of her split as she consciously chooses the kind of life she wants to live. It's a story about her role as the victim, as the survivor, and ultimately as the hero of her own tale. In this memoir, Chappell discusses her transformative journey into self and the gifts she discovered after her ex left. This is a story about the human spirit and the potentials that exist within us all; ultimately, it is a story about love.

Abstract: An updated version for parents of infants and toddlers integrates new findings into the original material and addresses the questions most often asked by parents. Practical methods for identifying, avoiding, or coping with child rearing problems are suggested. The importance of the emotional and educational development of a child during the first 3 years of life is stressed emphasizing the parent's contribution. Descriptions of developmental stages and individual variations, based on 30 years of observations and research, are provided. Some general concerns dealt with include working parents, parental roles, discipline, early detection of developmental problems, sibling influence, play, and childbirth method. Toys are recommended for specific levels of development. Behavior patterns of young children are described to provide a framework to help parents create an atmosphere conducive to successful child rearing. (cj).
