The DOD FIIG Improvement Program, established in December 1964, was designed to provide in one document full guidance for uniform and expanded item descriptions in a machine-sensible format. The objective was to provide necessary descriptive information on items of supply for use by multiple logistics functions. This study provides an overview of the concept, development and current status of the program as well as an analysis of FIIG Program management. The results of the analysis reflect that there are problem areas hindering effective and efficient implementation of the program and specific recommendations are made to improve its future administration.
