There Are Many Faces to Domestic Violence....Here's My Face! This book will take you on a journey through thirteen faces of emotions. Each emotional face gives you a detailed glimpse into my world as a victim of domestic violence. There are thoughts that prompt me to never forget although I have forgiven. - "You know what your problem is? You don't know how to treat a man because your dad wasn't in your life." - "You wouldn't even think by looking at him he would do something like that to you, besides you have always been so strong and independent." - "How could you get involve with someone like that?" - "Why don't you just leave?" - "How did I get here?" - "God why me?" - "This is my day to stop hurting!" - "You are wiser after you have been truly tested and stronger from having endured the experience." "How do you forgive someone who was determined to destroy you and called it love?" Since my experience, I have found that sharing my story has encouraged and even inspired other victims and survivors of domestic violence. This book gives a very different perspective to the battered woman. It provides a glimpse into the experience, the emotions and the escape of a woman who endured thirteen years of abuse. In addition, this book shares mind boggling adaptations to living through and surviving the abuse. Felicia Johnson is an educator in the 3rd largest school district in Houston, Texas. Hall, Beth relates the background and events leading up to and immediately following the tragic act of desperation that ended the life of her sadistic perpetrator. Beth′s subsequent mishandling by the police, the military, a mental health professional, and the welfare system illustrates how women like Beth face further revictimization and neglect by the very systems that should provide support and assistance. Insightful commentaries written by experts in the field follow Beth′s story and deepen readers’ understanding of the causes and process of spousal abuse, why battered women stay, and the dynamic consequences of domestic violence. This updated edition includes new commentaries and an epilogue that tracks what happened to Beth in the years following the book’s publication.

The Faces of Domestic Violence is a work which follows the progression of a ‘romantic’ relationship to its tragic end. The piece, written in a combination of haiku and poetic rhyme, conveys the inner musing of the characters as they become deeper and deeper entwined in one another’s lives. As the relationship progresses, signs and warning signals of violence are ignored and/or justified. Voices of family members and those who are impacted by the couple are heard throughout the piece. As a dramatic reading, the voices can be read by multiple readers, an indication that these characters can represent anyone.

It will save lives." -Washington Post “Essential, devastating reading.” -Cheryl Strayed, New York Times Book Review An award-winning journalist's intimate investigation of the true scope of domestic violence, revealing how the roots of America's most pressing social crises are buried in abuse that happens behind closed doors. We call it domestic violence. We call it private violence. Sometimes we call it intimate terrorism. But whatever we call it, we generally do not believe it has anything at all to do with us, despite the World Health Organization deeming it a “global epidemic.” In America, domestic violence accounts for 15 percent of all violent crime, and yet it remains locked in silence, even as its tendrils reach unseen into so many of our most pressing national issues, from our economy to our education system, from mass shootings to mass incarceration to #MeToo. We still have not taken the true measure of this problem. In No Visible Bruises, journalist Rachel Louise Snyder gives context for what we don't know we're seeing. She frames this urgent and immersive account of the scale of domestic violence in our country around key stories that explode the common myths-that if things were bad enough, victims would just leave; that a violent person cannot become nonviolent; that shelter is an adequate response; and most insidiously that violence inside the home is a private matter, sealed from the public sphere and disconnected from other forms of violence. Through the stories of victims, perpetrators, law enforcement, and reform movements from across the country, Snyder explores the real roots of private violence, its far-reaching consequences for society, and what it will take to truly address it.

The book focuses and discuses about violence against women and men. This is a global problem that affects both industrialized and non-industrialized nations worldwide. This means that gender-related violence crosses many path. These include sexual assault, spousal abuse, sexual harassment, and coerced sterilization and childbearing. Others are criminalized abortion and female circumcision. Violence issues against women are generally omitted from the agenda of health. Many cultures blame women for the abuse rather than researching for the true facts. Therefore, many women have limited resources for seeking help to learn how to cope with negative behaviors in an abusive relationship. So be aware that some men regard their wives as property, which means they have all of the power to make demands and control. The new changing role in domestic violence has taken on a new face. It is no longer husband against wife; the dynamic has changed drastically within the family networks. Now we see intimate partner violence due to the changing role of players.

Each year, more than 2.5 million cases of battering are reported in the Unites States, and as many as 2,000 incidents of abuse turn into murder cases. Every month, more than 50,000 women in the United States seek restraining or protection orders. While many books detail distinguishing characteristics of the abusive relationship, few accounts reveal how some women eventually gather the resources and courage to leave. In a chronicle by turns harrowing and inspiring, Ann Goetting tells how sixteen women finally got away for good. Getting Out recounts not only the stories of their abuse but also the women's life histories leading up to the battering—and the resources they drew upon to escape. Some of the women here received assistance from compassionate family members—Lee, for instance, secured support from her parents, who scheduled a holiday trip home for her to get her away from her husband, Tony, whose battering had reached life-threatening dimensions as he became progressively more involved with an outlaw motorcycle gang. Others were saved by a network of friends—Israeli-born Netiva married an American and escaped after a group of fellow graduate students helped break down the isolation that held her captive. As Goetting explains, leaving is a process rather than an event, often marked along the way by reconciliations and resumption of abuse. But as she and her informants suggest, the process invariably extends back to a critical moment when a decision to leave is made. The life-affirming moment may follow a particularly appalling episode of abuse or arrive in a long-repressed recognition of self-worth garnered from a positive experience at work or in the rearing of a child. Getting Out is a book that some women may read to discover solutions to problems within their own lives and those of people they know. It is also a work that social workers and psychologists who deal with battered women will find singularly informative, and one that will find an audience of readers seeking to understand the lives of women involved with abusive men.

What are the psychological, emotional and verbal tools the abuser uses to control the victim? What is the worst part of the abuse according to victims? What is the Cycle of Abuse and how does it compare to the Cycle of Respect? Why is it so hard to get away? What is Safety Planning and how can friends, family and loved ones play a big part in it?
