We present preliminary results from an analysis of jet data collected during the 1994-95 Tevatron Collider run with an integrated luminosity of 93 pb−1. Measurements of dijet mass spectra in {anti p}p collisions at (square root)s = 1.8 TeV are compared to next-to-leading order QCD calculations.

Recent results on the measurement of the dijet inclusive differential cross section and the dijet mass distribution made by the CDF and DO collaborations are presented. The analyses are based on large statistics of data obtained from the 94-95 Tevatron collider run at Fermilab. The measured spectra are compared to QCD calculations using different parton distribution functions. The CDF and DO dijet angular distributions are also presented to be compared to QCD calculations.

A summary of QCD results obtained using the dijet invariant mass spectrum d[sigma]/dM[sub jj] is presented. The spectrum is compared with QCD Leader Order and with the recently published Next to Leading Order calculations. A limit on the scale of an eventual quark compositness can be set at [Lambda]=1300 GeV. Limits on the production of new particles, decaying hadronically, are presented, too. Axigluons are ruled out in the mass range [240, 640] GeV, for a theory with N=10 strong interacting fermions, and in the two windows [260, 280] GeV and [450, 550] GeV, for N=20.

'Dorigo provides an engaging and insightful perspective on the pursuit of physics discoveries at CDF … Dorigo’s book is thus almost certainly going to be an important source for anyone interested in the history of CDF … It is a personal yet highly informative story of discovery and almost-discovery from the perspective of someone who saw the events firsthand.'Physics TodayFrom the mid-1980s, an international collaboration of 600 physicists embarked on the investigation of subnuclear physics at the high-energy frontier. As well as discovering the top quark, the heaviest elementary particle ever observed, the physicists analyzed their data to seek signals of new physics which could revolutionize our understanding of nature.Anomaly! tells the story of that quest, and focuses specifically on the finding of several unexplained effects which were unearthed in the process. These anomalies proved highly controversial within the large team: to some collaborators they called for immediate publication, while to others their divulgation threatened to jeopardize the reputation of the experiment.Written in a confidential, narrative style, this book looks at the sociology of a large scientific collaboration, providing insight in the relationships between top physicists at the turn of the millennium. The stories offer an insider's view of the life cycle of the 'failed' discoveries that unavoidably accompany even the greatest endeavors in modern particle physics.

Dijet events produced in LHC proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy \(\sqrt{s}=8\) TeV are studied with the ATLAS detector using the full 2012 data set, with an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb-1. Dijet masses up to about 4.5 TeV are probed. Resonancelike features are not observed in the dijet mass spectrum. Limits on the cross section times acceptance are set at the 95% credibility level for various hypotheses of new phenomena in terms of mass or energy scale, as appropriate. The analysis excludes excited quarks with a mass below 4.06 TeV, color-octet scalars with a mass below 2.70 TeV, heavy W' bosons with a mass below 2.45 TeV, chiral W* bosons with a mass below 1.75 TeV, and quantum black holes with six extra space-time dimensions with threshold mass below 5.66 TeV.

The authors present the first Run II measurements with the D0 detector of the inclusive jet and dijet cross sections at (square root)s = 1.96 TeV. This analysis is based on an integrated luminosity of 34 pb−1. The results from a next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculation are compared to the measured cross sections. The theoretical calculation agrees with the data.

The differential cross section of the process p + pbar --> jet + jet + X as a function of the dijet invariant mass has been measured with the CDF detector at a center of mass energy of 1.8 TeV at the Tevatron Collider in Fermilab. The present analysis is based on the sample of events collected in the 1988/89 run, amounting to a total integrated luminosity of 4.2 pb−1. A comparison to leading order QCD and quark compositeness predictions is presented as well as a study of the sensitivity of the mass spectrum to the gluon radiation. 10 refs., 6 figs.
