Captain Vardon, the commander of the vessel, was generally by his side, and I am sure you would have been happy to make his acquaintance, for he was a very pleasant man. Every body was busy on board, either on deck or be low deck, storing away the goods. Boxes upon boxes came alongside the Mentor from morning till evening.
