Excerpt from The Canadian Entomologist, 1895, Vol. 27 In addition to the great work that we have just referred to, Mr. Edwards has contributed largely to the periodical literature of science, especially to the Proceedings and Transactions of the American Entomo logical Society and the canadian entomologist. His first contribution to our pages was published in the third number of our first volume, in 1868, and he has continued to favour us with articles of great value ever since 5 his last paper, in the September number of Volume XXVII., being the one hundred and sixty-eighth which he has written for our journal. Mr. Edwards was born on the 1sth of March, 1822, and will soon complete his seventy-fourth year. That he may long be spared in health and prosperity to carry on his excellent work is the cordial wish of the writer and all his friends. C. J. S. B. Excerpt from The Canadian Entomologist, 1883, Vol. 15 With the present issue the canadian enters upon the fifteenth year of its existence. During that long period it has had many friends, but these were never more numerous than at present, for the good work it has done and is still doing is recognized by all. While thanking those who have so kindly aided us in the past, we solicit a continuance of their support, and at the same time would request any of our younger Entomologists Who may have observed any facts worth recording in refer ence to the habits or life history of any of our insects, to send them for publication, and thus aid us in our endeavors to make the fifteenth volume at least equal to any Of its predecessors in usefulness. Excerpt from The Canadian Entomologist, 1876, Vol. 8 Last year, at our annual meeting, I took the opportunity of calling your attention to many fields Of Entomological labour that are now all but unexplored in this country. May I repeat that there is ample scope for the exertions Of all our members, whether they care only to form collections Of specimens, or prefer to devote their labours to the unfolding Of the life-histories or the study of the classification of insects? There is plenty of work remaining to be done even in the favourite orders of Lepidoptera and Coleoptera, to say nothing of the others that are not so generally studied or collected. It would be a valuable contribution to our store of knowledge were lists of the Canadian species of all orders of insects to be formed, and presented to the Society for publication and at the same time a revision made of those published some years ago. Excerpt from The Canadian Entomologist, Vol. 7: January, 1876 As I mentioned at the outset, you have done me the great honour of electing me your President for five years in succession 3 while I thank you most cordially for your kindness and consideration so repeatedly shown to me, I feel that it is only reasonable that I should now make way for some one else, who may be able to devote more time and energy to the interests of our Society, and be of more real use to it than I have latterly been capable of. I beg, therefore, to resign into your hands the office that you have so long honoured me with 3 at the same time I desire to say that I shall continue always to have the welfare of the Society at heart, and that I shall ever be ready and willing to do all that lies in my power to advance its best interests. Again Offering you my respectful thanks. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
