The results of bacteriologic and of chemicobiologic 'research as applied to the pathology of midwifery; the wider range of surgery in treating many of the complications of pregnancy, labor, and the puerperal period embrace new problems in obstetrics, some of which have found their final place in obstetric practice. It seems proper, therefore, to offer to the profession a thorough revision of this text-book. Some of the chapters have been rewritten, others have been thoroughly revised. A number of the illustrations that appeared in the first edition have been replaced by others of greater artistic excellence, and several additional illustrations have been added. It will be noticed that Dr. J Clarence Webster has been added to the list of contributors; while it is with deep regret that the editor recalls the death of Doctors Theophilus Parvin, James H. Etheridge, and Charles Warrington Earle. The chapters by Dr. Etheridge have been rewritten by Dr. Webster; those by Doctors Parvin and Earle have been partially re written and revised by the editor. By reason of the extensive additions to the text, and to facilitate ease in handling the work, it has been deemed advisable to present the new edition in two volumes.
