Excerpt from The American Journal of Physiology, Vol. 20 This research does not deal with the action Of muscles under physi ological conditions, but with the mechanical effects of the Shortening of individual muscles. All of the infinite number of positions which the bones entering into the hip and knee joints can take with respect to each other can be reached by appropriate muscular action. It would be, however, impossible to determine experimentally the exact method of action of each of the muscles which takes part in placing the leg in each of these innumerable positions, or to ascertain what would be the action of each of the muscles when the leg occupied each of these positions. Excerpt from American Journal of Physiology, Vol. 19 The serum in a case of diabetic coma did not produce this change In color; the same observation was made in the case of a patient suffering with acute meningitis, and at the time of examination in a comatose condition. The urine of this patient contained aceton, but no sugar. The serum of a case of acute jaundice acted in the same manner on the test paper. All these cases had a marked decrease in alkalinity. Slighter variations In the same direction were observed in the serum of a case of lymphatic leucaemia, of two cases of scarlet fever, and in post-mortem blood. An increase in alkalinity above the normal has so far not been determined. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
