Excerpt from The Alumni Review, Vol. 2: March, 1914 The basketball season has run an up and down course. Tandy and Edwards through deficiencies in studies disqualified themselves at a critical time and Virginia turned the next game into a rout. Vir ginia would have won decisively anyway. Carolina did not have the reach of the tall Virginians and could only look up as the Raleigh crowd looked on. With Johnson going fast at centre Carolina made it two straights from Guilford by the score of 38 to 13. Homewood was all over the floor. Long and Dowd shot goals with easy accuracy. Excerpt from The Alumni Review, Vol. 10: March, 1922 The alumni require no recital of the physical growth of the plant and the increase of numbers. The story of new dormitories in construction, of faculty houses, of railroad connections, of projected recitation buildings, etc., has been told over and over again. Nor of the numerical growth. It is history that students were enrolled from June 15 to December 31 for college credit and that a total of students, Summer School and regular, were on the campus within the dates mentioned. Similarly the Law School, the School of Pharmacy, the School of Medicine, the. School of Commerce, the Graduate School, and the School of Education have had the largest enrollments in their history, and all depart ments are strained to the breaking point for lack of class rooms and laboratory facilities. Excerpt from The Alumni Review, Vol. 2: April, 1914 The two to five errors account largely for the five to two score in Wesleyan' s victory over Carolina. Slow work in right field enabled Lambert to round the bases. Cornwell lifted the ball into the woods back of the left field fence. Johnson's hitting was a feature. Excerpt from The Alumni Review, Vol. 2: June, 1914 Following a beautiful open air concert by Don Richardson's Orchestra, the class day exercises were concluded at the Davie Poplar at L. H. Ranson read the class statistics, humorously touch ing off the departures from the normal by mem bers of the class. The fact that some, $30,000 had been spent by the class for smokes, the Pickwick, and other luxuries, loomed large in the total expenditure of by the class since its entrance into the University in 1910. Another fact, and one which elicits consideration of a careful order, was that of 203 freshman entering only 75 finished the course. C. D. Taylor, class prophet, gave his classmates a picture of themselves twenty years hence, while J. T. Hatcher disposed of their worldly effects and E. J. Perry inspired them for the fight before them with a militant class poem. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
