This Book provides in depth details of synthesis Nano Crystalline Zinc Oxide (ZnO) by Solution Combustion Process. Starting from the chemicals required, chemical solution balancing, how to take particular amount of compound in grams, how to change oxidizer to fuel ratio, how it effects the result by changing oxidizer to fuel ratio. Characterization of different products through X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD), Raman Spectroscopy, FTIR Spectroscopy, TG/DT Analysis and Scanning Electron Microscopy. Through XRD we find crystal structure, crystallite size. FTIR provides characteristic frequency of Zn-O bond. TG/DT Analysis gives information about stability of ZnO up to a temperature of 1000 degree Celsius. Scanning Electron Microscopy reveals the presence of ZnO nanoparticles and also it indicate the spherical morphology of the particles.

This book focuses on the study of synthesized ZnO powder using Zn(CH3COO)2∙2H2O precursor, methanol (as solvent), and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) to vary the pH. The successfully synthesized ZnO powder from the sol-gel centrifugation and sol-gel storage methods were characterized and investigated by X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, UV–visible spectroscopy, and photoluminescence test to compare the properties of the nanoparticles. The best characteristic of the ZnO powder from both methods was observed when the powders were coated on an ITO glass to fabricate a PEC. The current density–voltage performances of both PECs were investigated under luminescent and dark conditions.

Zinc oxide (ZnO) is a chemically and thermally stable n-type semiconducting material with many applications including solar cells, piezoelectrics, and fuel cell devices due to their flexible use in chemical sensing. ZnO has a wide band gap and fast electron transfer that makes it a promising candidate for a supporting matrix in the fabrication of biosensors. ZnO's high isoelectric point facilitates its binding with many enzymes proteins, DNA, and RNA providing potential use in biomedical applications. Here, we hydrothermally synthesized ZnO nanoparticles at low temperature conditions. Solvent, precursor, and reaction temperatures as well as reaction times were varied resulting in controlling the size, morphology and properties of the particles. These ZnO nanoparticles were characterized extensively by employing the use of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), infrared spectroscopy (IR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) among other techniques. These nanoparticles were coupled with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNT) to fabricate hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and glucose sensors. ZnO is also demonstrated to potentially increase enzyme activity using luciferase as a model system.
