The presence of nickel in the enzyme hydrogenases is an example of the catalytic role of metal ions in redox reactions [2] of biological importance. The selectivity of cyclic antibiotics towards cation has commercial applications. Extending earlier work [4,5], we have synthesized new macrocyclic complexes of nickel (II) and cooper(II);the macrocycles were prepared by condensing 2, 6-diacetylpyridine with pyridine-2, 6-dicarboxylic acid dihydrazide.
