The wood bison is recognized as an endangered subspecies of the North American bison, distinct from its close relative the plains bison.This report describes the status of existing herds of wood bison and identifies research requirements including aspects of physiology, behaviour, mortality factors, and habitat relationships. Specific criteria required for the downlisting and delisting of wood bison are presented.
