An analysis of texts representing multiple regional cultures within Spain while examining the Gothic haunting motif in post-Franco Spanish literature. Employing a theoretical framework in memory and trauma studies and placing emphasis on the inclusion of women's voices that are frequently left out of Spanish Gothic scholarship, Spectral Spain is the first study to provide an in-depth study of spectrality and haunting in the Gothic literature of contemporary Spain. Through close readings of eleven main texts, Dr. Heidi Backes examines haunting as the perfect motif for Spanish authors to portray the tension between modernity and the imposition of a nationalized tradition throughout the twentieth century--noting not just the trauma of the civil war and the resulting dictatorship of Franco, but also the continuing and widespread disenchantment during and after the transition. It is a study of multiple manifestations of individual and collective trauma in texts written after the transition, which will assist readers' understanding of the relationships between Gothic fear, trauma, and spectrality.

This volume contains the Proceedings of the Fifth Scientific Meeting of the Spanish Astronomical Society (Sociedad Espanola de Astronomfa, SEA). The meeting was held at the Universidad de Castilla La Mancha in Toledo, from September 9 to 13, 2002. The event brought together 219 participants who pre sented their latest results in many different subjects. In comparison with the previous scientific meetings of the Society, the numbers of oral talks and poster contributions (122 and 64, respectively) are rapidly increasing, confirming that the SEA conferences are becoming a point of reference to assess the interests and achievements of astrophysical research in Spain. During the meeting, the SEA made public the granting of the Prize to the Best Spanish Ph. D. Thesis in As tronomy and Astrophysics for the period 2000-2001 ex aequo to Dr. A. Zurita and Dr. E. Villaver. This is the second time that the SEA is awarding this prize, which aim is to encourage young spanish astrophysicists to pursue a high level scientific career. The Society is indebted to the Universidad de Castilla La Mancha, and, in particular, to the San Pedro Martir staff, for its hospitality. It is also indebted to the Local Organizing Committee for its dedication and the good atmosphere that prevailed at any moment, and to the Scientific Organizing Committee for its excel lent work.

Written by leading global experts, including pioneers in the field, the four-volume set on Hyperspectral Remote Sensing of Vegetation, Second Edition, reviews existing state-of-the-art knowledge, highlights advances made in different areas, and provides guidance for the appropriate use of hyperspectral data in the study and management of agricultural crops and natural vegetation. Volume I, Fundamentals, Sensor Systems, Spectral Libraries, and Data Mining for Vegetation introduces the fundamentals of hyperspectral or imaging spectroscopy data, including hyperspectral data processes, sensor systems, spectral libraries, and data mining and analysis, covering both the strengths and limitations of these topics. This book also presents and discusses hyperspectral narrowband data acquired in numerous unique spectral bands in the entire length of the spectrum from various ground-based, airborne, and spaceborne platforms. The concluding chapter provides readers with useful guidance on the highlights and essence of Volume I through the editors’ perspective. Key Features of Volume I: Provides the fundamentals of hyperspectral remote sensing used in agricultural crops and vegetation studies. Discusses the latest advances in hyperspectral remote sensing of ecosystems and croplands. Develops online hyperspectral libraries, proximal sensing and phenotyping for understanding, modeling, mapping, and monitoring crop and vegetation traits. Implements reflectance spectroscopy of soils and vegetation. Enumerates hyperspectral data mining and data processing methods, approaches, and machine learning algorithms. Explores methods and approaches for data mining and overcoming data redundancy; Highlights the advanced methods for hyperspectral data processing steps by developing or implementing appropriate algorithms and coding the same for processing on a cloud computing platform like the Google Earth Engine. Integrates hyperspectral with other data, such as the LiDAR data, in the study of vegetation. Includes best global expertise on hyperspectral remote sensing of agriculture, crop water use, plant species detection, crop productivity and water productivity mapping, and modeling.

This volume documents the contributions presented at the Seventh Scientific Meeting of the Spanish Astronomical Society (Sociedad Española de Astronomía, SEA). The event bought together 301 participants who presented 161 contributed talks and 120 posters, the greatest number of contributions in the history of the meeting. The fact that most exciting items of the current astronomical research were addressed in the meeting is proof of the good health of the SEA, a consolidated organization founded fifteen years ago in Barcelona.

Subjective cognitive decline (SCD) with self-reported concerns and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) are well-established to be at increased risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease (AD) dementia and a clinical continuum of dementia progression as a spectrum of AD. AD may develop from SCD to MCI (early MCI and late MCI) and eventually to AD. Nevertheless, until recently little was known about their pathophysiology associated with cognitive-behavioral syndrome. Although for researchers, scientists and clinicians, the pathophysiology of AD spectrum is an intriguing issue, delineating it in a clear way is far from easy. Taken together, in-depth understanding of neuroimaging-based pathology behind cognitive impairments across AD spectrum may help to develop new strategy for the early diagnosis and treatment of AD. Neuroimaging has been thought to potentially reveal the pathological mechanisms of AD progression. Individuals across AD spectrum are often associated with anatomical and functional brain alterations and cognitive impairment, most of the pathophysiology will focus primarily on the brain. To investigate brain structures and functions associated with cognition, neuroimaging will be the most appropriate tool.

Automorphic forms are one of the central topics of analytic number theory. In fact, they sit at the confluence of analysis, algebra, geometry, and number theory. In this book, Henryk Iwaniec once again displays his penetrating insight, powerful analytic techniques, and lucid writing style. The first edition of this book was an underground classic, both as a textbook and as a respected source for results, ideas, and references. Iwaniec treats the spectral theory of automorphic forms as the study of the space of $L^2$ functions on the upper half plane modulo a discrete subgroup. Key topics include Eisenstein series, estimates of Fourier coefficients, Kloosterman sums, the Selberg trace formula and the theory of small eigenvalues. Henryk Iwaniec was awarded the 2002 Cole Prize for his fundamental contributions to number theory.
