Rabbit raisers will keep their rabbitries hopping and happy with the advice found in Rabbits, a Hobby Farm book. Rabbit breeder and exhibitor Chris McLaughlin offers years of experience and guidance on the many aspects of raising rabbits on a hobby farm, a livestock choice she considers perfect due to the limited space rabbits need to thrive. Whether the reader is raising rabbits for pets, fiber, or meat, there is much solid information and useful advice to be found in the pages of Rabbits. From the natural and cultural history of rabbits to selecting and purchasing of the right rabbits for a small farm, this book is both practical and enlightening. Individual chapters focusing on housing and feeding, behavior and handling, health care, and breeding and raising young make this an indispensable choice for all rabbit keepers. Handsomely designed with color photographs throughout, Rabbits also offers sidebars of helpful tips, fun anecdotes, and quotes from hobby farmers that prove entertaining and edifying. The final chapter of the book, "Making Money with Rabbits" discusses how to turn the rabbit-raising business profitable through producing show and pet rabbits, wool/fiber rabbits, rabbit manure, and rabbit meat. Resources include a glossary of terms and a catalog of associations, books, periodicals, and websites. Fully indexed.

Rabbits For Kids Amazing Animal Books For Young Readers Table of Contents Introduction What are rabbits? What do rabbits eat? Rabbits and their appearance How do rabbits act? Rabbits as pets European Rabbits Cottontail Rabbits Volcano Rabbits Pygmy Rabbits Amami Rabbits Australian Rabbits Pikas Hares Conclusion Author Bio Introduction Rabbits are adorable animals that many people keep as pets. They exist both in the wild and as pets in great numbers; in fact, rabbits are known for having babies, and lots of them. The reason there are so many rabbits is because they have so many babies, and with short gaps in between. The rabbit has been shown as a trickster in many tales throughout the world; it’s also considered a symbol of life and fertility, particularly in the Christian tradition. Easter is a time of year that decorations of rabbits are put up, and the rabbit is celebrated. Along with foxes, they are one of the most popular animals for folk tales. Rabbits have long been prey animals, meaning that they are hunted by bigger predators, such as wolves or foxes. They make up for their fragile build and health by pure numbers; a lot of rabbits may not make it, but because there are so many, it doesn’t make a difference. Most rabbits are not endangered. If you want cute and cuddly, rabbits are almost the cutest pet around. They also love being petted, like a lot of domestic (tamed) animals. Rabbits make great pets.

“This provocative jaunt…dissects society, technology, othering, and what makes humanity human.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review) “An unpredictable, gross, and prescient rumination on modernity, media consumption, and machine-aided communication.” —Booklist (starred review) Told with Andrew Smith’s signature dark humor, Rabbit & Robot tells the story of Cager Messer, a boy who’s stranded on the Tennessee—his father’s lunar-cruise utopia—with insane robots. To help him shake his Woz addiction, Billy and Rowan transport Cager Messer up to the Tennessee, a giant lunar-cruise ship orbiting the moon. Meanwhile, Earth, in the midst of thirty simultaneous wars, burns to ash beneath them. And as the robots on board become increasingly insane and cannibalistic, and the Earth becomes a toxic wasteland, the boys have to wonder if they’ll be stranded alone in space forever. In Rabbit & Robot, Andrew Smith, Printz Honor author of Grasshopper Jungle, makes you laugh, cry, and consider what it really means to be human.

The automatic laboratory lights clicked on, flooding the complex with artificial daylight. With a start, Nova blinked the sleep out of her eyes. She slowly looked around the small lab room. Dorian was still asleep in his bed box, which was next to hers. Nova made a little rabbit-type yawn, licked her front paws, and washed her face. She stretched and hopped out of her bed box. Nova looked like a small black ball of fur with tiny black ears. She and Dorian were Black Dwarf rabbits that had been carefully raised and studied under controlled laboratory conditions for eleven successive generations. Her name was at the bottom of a large chart as NOVA 11/N. This meant she was an eleventh-order rabbit with 2,046 carefully raised and charted ancestors. Dorian was also an eleventh-order rabbit but from another complete line of Black Dwarfs.
