In a starred review Publishers Weekly raves: "It’s an avant-garde, surrealist story with a Hollywood-style tearjerker lurking within—and a surprisingly charming and affecting one at that." Award-winning poet Matthea Harvey and illustrator extraordinaire Giselle Potter team up to create an indescribably unique picture book about wanting to be normal, then coming to appreciate being different. Ruby would love to be like everyone else—not easy when you have a tiara-wearing mother and a father who spends his time trimming outrageous topiary. She'd also like to get a nice normal pet, maybe a dog. Then, on a family vacation to Norway, she finds herself adopted by a small, affectionate glacier. How Cecil, as the ice pet is named, proves himself to Ruby—risking his own meltdown—is a story sure to thrill and delight young readers.

Bernard Fraley's "Tall Tales, Short Stories, and Ventilated Conversations" is a remarkable collection that explores the fusion of prose and poetry in a unique and captivating way. Through an assortment of stories, poems, and conversations, Fraley delivers a refreshing take on the relationship between different forms of literature. The concept of "ventilated" writing is a recurring form throughout the book, and the author masterfully employs this technique to convey his ideas and emotions. Ventilated poetry, in particular, is an excellent example of Fraley's style, which emphasizes free verse and a focus on personal experiences and emotions. The result is a poetic language that is raw, unfiltered, and relatable to modern readers. The book is a mix of various forms and textures, and it's apparent that Fraley has put in considerable effort to create a synergy between prose and poetry. The result is a collection that seeks synchronicity, and every piece in the book has been carefully crafted to create a balance between the two. The stories in the book are equally compelling, with each one presenting a unique tale that keeps the reader engaged. Fraley's writing style is fluid, and he has a knack for creating vivid imagery that paints a clear picture in the reader's mind. From funny anecdotes to more serious stories, the author covers a wide range of topics that showcase his versatility as a writer. Overall, "Tall Tales, Short Stories, and Ventilated Conversations" is a fantastic read for anyone who enjoys exploring the boundaries of literature. Fraley's ability to seamlessly blend prose and poetry into a cohesive whole is a testament to his talent as a writer. This book is a must-read for those who appreciate the beauty and power of language, and it's sure to leave a lasting impression on anyone who picks it up. The Cage 3 Production Group

These poems and short stories vary in both size and content. Most are memories of my growing up in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York. The poem "Woodridge" is among my favorites "I came from Brooklyn my father to gleam, The house of Pagoda a baby would scream Although sustaining less laughter than tears, Youth in Woodridge were still the best years." Another poem "Twins" I wrote for my friend "They came into the world like a Fox Twins so a like, like shoes in the box clock tick tocks He is my friend, the watchdog of my fury, guardian of the past Shelly I see, sorrow, ecstasy of the soul, deck to the mast forever to last." The short story "Liza Taube" is about a man beloved by everyone in my hometown. "Louis 'Liza' Taube was born kicking & fighting, in the small town where he would spend his entire life "Like my brother Joel, he was an innocent child lost in the body of an adult."
