Y2K... a time when the music world was filled with new directions and a lot of new groups. A time far past the music I grew up with. A time when my teenage children were discovering their own musical likes and dislikes. Teen Pop... Dance Pop... Bubblegum Pop... Brit Pop... Euro Pop... to name just a few of the genres. Enter four bubbly, high-energy, teenagers from Sweden, with voices that worked perfectly together. Discovered by another Swedish vocalist, who traded in singing for songwriting and managing, these kid's amazing journey began in the blink of an eye... They opened for a number of established acts, released their first CD in multiple countries, performed on a number of major TV shows, had songs on at least three movie soundtracks, released a DVD of their lives on the road, sold a million records, and finished recording their second album as well. The thing is, they managed all this, in three short years... Then one day, as quickly as it started, it was over. They went their own ways... back to their own lives. Fifteen years later, Alexander Brooks drops into their lives... and pretty much upends all of them. Alex has just one motto - 'All Things Are Possible', and he fully intends to prove it. "Enjoy your childhood. Have fun while you can." That's what parents tell their children. Jane Adleyn Geiger did enjoy her childhood immensely. Her blessings in life include a Christian upbringing, two wonderful (most of the time) sisters, loving parents, and a middle-class economic privilege. Her story begins with a recreation of her grandparents' and parents' courtship and marriage. Her parents were married just a few days before the Stock Market crashed in 1929, and they suffered many hardships of life over the next few years. Adleyn grew up during the 1950's, and has written this stimulating account of her childhood, her school years, and her musical journey. A teen pregnancy and her subsequent marriage changed the focus of her life from high school, friends, And The possibility of a music conservatory experience to that of family survival. She has included stories of her family, friends, and teachers who helped her succeed along the way. Often hilarious, this nostalgic retelling of her childhood is a universal project of many adults, though many do not have the nerve to put it in writing. Included in the book is a personal letter to each of her children, telling about the special memories that make each one so unique. Adleyn's fascination with shoes - the way they look, The way they feel, And The way the smell (when they're new) has given her a theme For The entire story. During many of the pivotal junctions in her life, her shoes of the times were an integral part of the major events. New shoes became a Rite of Passage to new places in life's journey. Imagine wearing a comfortable pair of Mary Janes while you read this story of courage, perseverance, and determination.

True Grunt is not about a Vietnam battle or a Vietnam journal/ memoir. It is a response to seeing short "Vietnam War 50 years later videos" on TV. These videos show two sides of the infantry in Vietnam. One side depicts the infantry fighting heroically and the other depicts the infantry committing some kind of atrocity. I served on the front lines with the infantry/grunt in 1970-1971. With many grandchildren, I don't want this mixed message to be my legacy. In those years, the infantry especially became the most maligned soldiers in our country's history. We were known as the baby killers and monsters of Vietnam. Those names continue to haunt us today. By seeing and experiencing my life as infantry-"grunt"-at that time, I hope the reader of True Grunt sees the infantry as moral men of intelligence and courage. They fought in some of the worst conditions of war. It is also a story of hope as one Vietnam Veteran regains his life, overcomes personal tragedies, and even disease from Agent Orange. It's time to project "50 years later videos" with just one message. Thousands of Vietnam grunts like myself were true to ourselves, our morals and our country. We won a great Victory in Vietnam. No asterisk needed.
