An inclusive search is performed for supersymmetry in final states containing jets and an apparent imbalance in transverse momentum, ptvecmiss, due to the production of unobserved weakly interacting particles in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. The data, recorded with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC, correspond to an integrated luminosity of 18.5 inverse femtobarns. The dimensionless kinematic variable alphaT is used to discriminate between events with genuine ptvecmiss associated with unobserved particles and spurious values of ptvecmiss arising from jet energy mismeasurements. No excess of event yields above the expected standard model backgrounds is observed. The results are interpreted in terms of constraints on the parameter space of several simplified models of supersymmetry that assume the pair production of top squarks. The search provides sensitivity to a broad range of top squark decay modes, including the two-body decay top squark to c chi0, where c is a charm quark and chi0 is the lightest neutralino, as well as the four-body decay top squark to b f bar-f' chi0, where b is a bottom quark and f and bar-f' are fermions produced in the decay of an intermediate off-shell W boson. These modes dominate in scenarios in which the top squark and lightest neutralino are nearly degenerate in mass. For these modes, top squarks with masses as large as 260 and 230 GeV are excluded, respectively, for the two- and four-body decays.

Results are reported of a general search for pair production of heavy resonances decaying to pairs of jets in events with at least four jets. The study is based on up to 19.4 inverse femtobarns of integrated luminosity from proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC. Limits are determined on the production of scalar top quarks (top squarks) in the framework of R-parity violating supersymmetry and on the production of color-octet vector bosons (colorons). First limits at the LHC are placed on top squark production for two scenarios. The first assumes decay to a bottom quark and a light-flavor quark and is excluded for masses between 200 and 385 GeV, and the second assumes decay to a pair of light-flavor quarks and is excluded for masses between 200 and 350 GeV at 95% confidence level. Previous limits on colorons decaying to light-flavor quarks are extended to exclude masses from 200 to 835 GeV.

Zusammenfassung: The thesis is focused on supersymmetry searches for the top-squark pair production with one lepton, jets and missing transverse momenta for compressed scenarios. Compressed scenario refers to signal models, where mass difference between some supersymmetric particles is small. All considered decay channels are assumed to be with branching ration of 100%. The results are based on data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20/fb recorded at center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV with ATLAS detector. The first analysis is targeting the decay channel where a top squark decays to a bottom quark and a chargino, with subsequent decay of the chargino to a W-boson and a neutralino. Targeted compressed scenarios are signal models with the mass difference between the top squark and the chargino is below 20 GeV. The analysis allows to exclude the top squark masses from 125 GeV to 350 GeV at 95% CL.The second analysis is targeting the decay channel where a top squark decays to a top and a neutralino via on- or off-shell decay. Targeted compressed scenarios are signal models with small difference between the mass of the top squark and the sum of masses for the top and the neutralino. Excluded the region for top squark masses from 200 GeV to 300 GeV at 95% CL

Our search for pair production of first and second generation leptoquarks is performed in final states containing either two charged leptons and two jets, or one charged lepton, one neutrino and two jets, using proton-proton collision data at √s = 8 TeV. The data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb-1, were recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC. First-generation scalar leptoquarks with masses less than 1010 (850) GeV are excluded for [beta] = 1.0 (0.5), where b is the branching fraction of a leptoquark decaying to a charged lepton and a quark. Similarly, secondgeneration scalar leptoquarks with masses less than 1080 (760) GeV are excluded for [beta] = 1.0 (0.5). Furthermore, mass limits are also set for vector leptoquark production scenarios with anomalous vector couplings, and for R-parity violating supersymmetric scenarios of top squark pair production resulting in similar final-state signatures. These are the most stringent limits placed on the masses of leptoquarks and RPV top squarks to date.

Searches are presented for direct production of top or bottom squark pairs in proton-proton collisions at the CERN LHC. Two searches, based on complementary techniques, are performed in all-jet final states that are characterized by a significant imbalance in transverse momentum. An additional search requires the presence of a charged lepton isolated from other activity in the event. The data were collected in 2015 at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the CMS detector and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 2.3 inverse femtobarns. No statistically significant excess of events is found beyond the expected contribution from standard model processes. Exclusion limits are set in the context of simplified models of top or bottom squark pair production. Models with top and bottom squark masses up to 830 and 890 GeV, respectively, are probed for light neutralinos. For models with top squark masses of 675 GeV, neutralino masses up to 260 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level.

Our search for supersymmetry through the direct pair production of top squarks, with Higgs (H) or Z bosons in the decay chain, is performed using a data sample of proton–proton collisions at √s= 8TeV collected in 2012 with the CMS detector at the LHC. The sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb-1. The search is performed using a selection of events containing leptons and bottom-quark jets. No evidence for a significant excess of events over the standard model background prediction is observed. The results are interpreted in the context of simplified supersymmetric models with pair production of a heavier top-squark mass eigenstate t̃/sup2 source decaying to a lighter top-squark mass eigenstate t̃/sup2 via either t̃/sup2 → Ht̃/sup1 or tsup̃/sup2 →Ztsup̃/sup1, followed in both cases by tsup̃/sup1→ t?sup0̃1, where ?sup0̃1 source is an undetected, stable, lightest supersymmetric particle. The interpretation is performed in the region where the mass difference between the tsup̃/sup1 and ?sup0̃1 states is approximately equal to the top-quark mass (mt1-msup?01≃mt), which is not probed by searches for direct tsup̃/sup1 squark pair production. This analysis excludes top squarks with mass mt1 575 GeVand msubt2

Abstract: Supersymmetry poses one of the best motivated theories for particle physics beyond the Standard Model. It can provide a dark matter candidate and enable grand unification. The supersymmetric partner of the top quark, the top squark, can provide a cancellation of diverging radiative corrections to the Higgs-boson mass and thereby avoid the hierarchy problem of the Standard Model. In this thesis, a search for top squarks in final states with jets and missing transverse momentum is presented. Proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 13 TeV, produced by the Large Hadron Collider, were recorded by the ATLAS detector. The analysed dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb-1. No significant excess above the Standard Model background was observed. The analysis results are interpreted as exclusion limits on the top-squark mass and the neutralino mass in various scenarios that address specific aspects of the supersymmetry

The results of a search for a supersymmetric partner of the top quark (top squark), pair-produced in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} =$ 8 TeV, are presented. The search, which focuses on R-parity violating, chargino-mediated decays of the top squark, is performed in final states with low missing transverse momentum, two oppositely charged electrons or muons, and at least five jets. The analysis uses a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in 2012. The data are found to be in agreement with the standard model expectation, and upper limits are placed on the top squark pair production cross section at 95% confidence level. Assuming a 100% branching fraction for the top squark decay chain, $ \mathrm{ \tilde{t} \to t \tilde{\chi}^{\pm}_1,\, \tilde{\chi}^{\pm}_1 \to \ell^\pm+jj } $, top squark masses less than 890 (1000) GeV for the electron (muon) channel are excluded for the first time in models with a single nonzero R-parity violating coupling $\lambda^{\prime}_{ijk}$ $(i, j, k \leq 2)$, where $i, j, k$ correspond to the three generations.
