Download How Does Participation in Science Fair Affect Student Performance in the Science Classroom? Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
This capstone examines the effects of Science Fair participation on classroom performance. Beginning with a discussion of the nature of Science Fair as an educational endeavor, the educational context is presented, including theories of Inquiry and Constructivism, and National Science Standards. Having established a model for effective learning and using the same to generate questions about attitudes and behaviors, the specific sixteen questions developed for this study elicited information about student experiences. Discussions of the value of survey results and of use of the particular Likert Scale were followed by presentation and analysis of results of each question. Significant differences were noted between Science Fair, non-Science Fair, and International Science Fair students. Results of study suggest that both Science Fair participation and teaching strategies that use Inquiry and active learning have the effect of creating more engaging learners.
