The divine plan in Exodus was conceived by God before the creation, because Jesus was the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world. This is the central theme of the Bible, and if a person did not know about it, the Bible would remain a mystery. The Bible has been interpreted many ways, but if we could state the theme and central message of the Bible, then we could understand it much better. Exodus offers us a portion of that plan. Exodus is a story, which makes it easy to read. It is the story of redemption and salvation and of the life of Israel afterward, in which God told them what sacrifices would please Him and how to build Him a house. Our study will include explanations of those animal sacrifices and how Christ fulfilled them. This book was written to make Exodus more enjoyable and profitable in Bible study.

No matter how many times you have read stories from the Bible, there is always something new to learn from the lives of its characters and the challenges they face. This is especially true for the book of Exodus, and this second Curious Student's Guide will help your children glean new insights into the Exodus narrative. This book will guide your children to these lessons by first summarizing key stories from Exodus and then asking thought-provoking questions. Consider the following example: Every reader of Exodus knows that Moses is its hero, but how many are aware of Miriam's heroism? Miriam is six years old when Moses is born. Very often, adults tell six-year-old children that they are too little to do this or that. But it is Miriam who approaches Pharaoh's daughter after she pulls baby Moses from the river to ask, "Shall I go and get you a Hebrew woman to nurse the child for you?" How dare any slave, especially a child, speak to Pharaoh's daughter and tell her what to do? Miriam dares, and by highlighting her bravery, this book challenges young readers to think about what they can accomplish by speaking up. With this Curious Student's Guide in hand, your children will discover similarly important life lessons they can apply to their own lives.

Jaeyoung Jeon examines and assesses recently suggested models for the formation of the Pentateuch through a redactional-critical analysis of the Call of Moses (Exod. 3-4) and the Exodus story (Exod. 5-13). He observes that Exod. 3-4 was formed through a series of stages of Deuteronomistic composition and redaction, to which some post-Priestly additions were made. Comparative analysis suggests that the elements of Deuteronomistic formation precede P and that the direction of influence is from the non-P narrative (Exod. 3-4) to the P call narrative (Exod. 6). Jeon also shows that although some of the literary layers in Exod. 3-4 extend through the Exodus story (Exod. 5-13), the present form of the latter has been shaped by a post-Deuteronomistic but pre-Priestly composition based on an earlier proto-Exodus story. He therefore concludes that the Pentateuch or Hexateuch might be the product of a more complicated process of development than the current models describe.
