Excerpt from Sixth Report Upon Vermont Agriculture: By the Superintendent of Agricultural Affairs It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont: Sec. 1. The governor of the state is hereby authorized and directed to appoint, by and with the consent of the senate, one person who shall be state superintendent of agricultural affairs, and who shall devote his whole time to promoting the highest agricultural interests of the state, and who shall hold his office for two years or until a new appointment is made. Sec. 2. The state superintendent of agricultural affairs shall, so far as practicable, visit each town in the state and hold public agricultural meetings therein, and procure reports thereof which reports he shall, as far as may be, cause to be published in newspapers printed in the state. Sec. 3. The state superintendent of agricultural affair's shall receive a salary of fourteen hundred dollars per year and his official expenses, but the whole amount paid by the state under this act, including printing, shall not exceed twenty-five hundred dollars annually. Sec. 4. All acts and parts of acts establishing a state board of agriculture, and amendments thereto, and all acts inconsistent with this act, are hereby repealed. Sec. 5.
