Excerpt from Report of the Health Officer of the District of Columbia, 1899 The total number of deaths from all causes, which occurred during she fiscal year 1898-99, was an increase of 611 over the conespond ing 6 are for the preceding year. The annual death rate rose, there fore, m per thousand to and was in excess of the average for the past five years. Of the decedents were white and colored, an increase of 399 in the former and of 212 in the latter. The death rate for the whites increased from to or per cent, and that for the colored from to or per cent. The average death rates for the past five years were, for the whites, and for the colored.
