We live in a time of unparalleled opportunity for women and a time, just because of that opportunity, of great stress. It is a time when every woman can find her own particular style, to develop her skills, to acknowledge her needs and failures, and to claim both her satisfactions and dissatisfactions. The old stereotypes are all but dead. But another danger threatens; of new stereotyped roles for women in the very range of choices and opportunities presented to the RECEIVING WOMAN grew out of a decade of reflections on women's experiences - my own, my patients', and my students', writes Professor Ulanov. From all of them, a common voice emerged speaking about each woman's struggle to receive all of herself. Each was trying to find and put together different parts of herself into a whole that was personal, alive, and real to her and to others.

"RECEIVING WOMAN grew out of a decade of reflections on women’s experiences - my own, my patients’, and my students’," writes Professor Ulanov. "From all of them, a common voice emerged speaking about each woman’s struggle to receive all of herself. Each was trying to find and put together different parts of herself into a whole that was personal, alive, and real to her and to others. I know that women want to be all of themselves and want to be their own selves, not examples of types. They want to work out their own individual combinations of what have been called the masculine and feminine parts of themselves. This book focuses on that possibility, on women receiving themselves, all of themselves, wisely and gladly."

How were women represented in Greek tragedy? This question lies at the heart of much modern scholarship on ancient drama, yet it has typically been approached using evidence drawn only from the thirty-two tragedies that survive complete - neglecting tragic fragments, especially those recently discovered and often very substantial fragmentary papyri from plays that had been thought lost. Drawing on the latest research on both gender in tragedy and on tragic fragments, the essays in this volume examine this question from a fresh perspective, shedding light on important mythological characters such as Pasiphae, Hypsipyle, and Europa, on themes such as violence, sisterhood, vengeance, and sex, and on the methodology of a discipline which needs to take fragmentary evidence to heart in order to gain a fuller understanding of ancient tragedy. All Greek is translated to ensure wide accessibility.

Getting back to God's divine blueprint for man and woman to co-labor in the earth realm together has been a long tedious journey. We have by no means arrived at a place where the waters of unity are not turbulent. Nevertheless, where women are received and allowed to work in unity with men ministers in the Body of Christ, walls of gender biases are torn down, progress is made, and the Gospel is preached in power. Receiving Woman, Empowering Woman brings to the light God's original blueprint of harmony between man and woman and gives a practical example of the effectiveness of that original blueprint when it is put into practice. And God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it [using all its vast resources in the service of God and man]; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and over every living creature that moves upon the earth. (Genesis 1:18 Amplified)
