Abstract: State of the Child in New York State presents a comprehensive, uniform collection of data about children and their families. This book is designed to meet the information needs of state and local government officials, program planners, providers, advocates, and researchers. Organized by the major systems or institutions that affect the lives of children, State of the Child in New York State contains nine chapters: Demographic Overview; Children in Families; Economic Status of Children; Child Care; Health and illness of Children; Children in School; Victimization of Children; Children and Youth in the Justice System, and Children in Out-of-Home Care. Trends are presented and discussed to identify emerging issues and children's progress on long-standing issues are assessed.
