Productivity is a measure of performance in the industry, organization or factory. The project is focused on bread production line in a factory of Mama Bake Industry. The study is about improving production productivity, reducing the waiting time in production, increase the production in one day in order to achieve target in shorter time. Initially, collection data in terms of cycle times of each machine or workstations, the area require by the workstations. During the visit to the factory, observation period is about a day, the tools used to record time and measure distance, area required by each workstation, and area of the factory is done by using Smart Phone Atrix 2 with stopwatch and smart measure which have the function to measure the distance of the object to the user. After data are collected, following by using Witness software, the original plant layout model is created, then 4 other new layout model is created and simulate all of them together with the original layout, then the productivity and the efficiency of the layout is calculated and record in the result. From the study, the main problem found is the space are small, some process stuck due to not enough capacity in buffer provide, where the bottleneck occur, but removing the walls, and balanced the production line more buffer capacity can be provided, thus the process can proceed without delay and waiting. Among all new layouts being proposed and simulated in Witness Software, the one with higher improvement in productivity and plant layout efficiency will be chosen.

Productivity improvement effort such as better layout arrangement, minimize the total production cost or maximize the throughput had been given great attentions in today manufacturing industries. However, to execute such improvements involve a big amount of money which normally be the cause that obstruct the improvements. Simulation has become one of the solutions to this problem and rapidly gaining the industry confident nowadays. This study aims to make improvement in terms of the company's production layout which focusing to the sandwich bread production line. The study is conducted at Roti Temerloh Enterprise, a company which produces products such as sandwich breads, buns and cakes. Being considered as one of the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), cost certainly be the big issues when improvement planning to be considered. Using WITNESS simulation software, the production of the sandwich bread will be modeled and some adjustment then reviewed through the simulation to come up with the improved alternatives layouts. Comparison analysis is carried out and the results show in increased of production up to 265 breads per day for alternative 1 and 581 breads per day for alternative 2 and 3. Machine utilization in term of idle time, busy time and blocked for; Alternative 1 86.69%, 13.49% and 0.49%, Alternative 2 66.49%, 26.82% and 6.69%, Alternative 3 69.64%, 25.04% and 5.32%. From the cost effectiveness analysis, the cost is RM2.06 per unit for Alternative 1 and RM1.49 per unit for Alternatives 2 and 3. Thus the suggested alternative is Alternative 3.

In the millennium era, software has becoming important tools in word processing, database, spreadsheet, designing, simulating and others. The use of software will simplify, facilitate and ease human being in the manual job. This project intends to discuss how QUEST simulation software is used to design new manufacturing floor layout and to improve the performance of existing ones. This project presents a practical undertaking to solve an industry-specific problem of floor layout expansion through re-location of an existing production facility to a proposed new floor layout. A mid-size company located in Klang, Selangor was chosen, and the analysis of its floor layout in an attempt to improve the overall productivity of its manufacturing process was done. A comprehensive manufacturing floor layout simulation study was undertaken to determine the inherent constraints and the bottleneck operations in the manufacturing process. The relevant performance measures from the simulation outputs along with such factors as space requirements for each equipment and the expected production goal of the new facility were analyzed to present floor layout design alternatives for the proposed new facility. The outcome of the simulation study was well informed to the management and the recommendations have been considered in the next company plant layout improvement planning.

Productivity improvement plays an important role in determining whether a company can survive in the future based on customer demands that it can fulfill. In this respect, simulation can be utilized as a what-if analysis tool to decide which productivity improvement strategies to be adopted. This thesis presents a simulation of the current performance of outputs and profits using WITNESS simulation software. The main objective of this project is to demonstrate the use of simulation in analyzing the existing production floor performance and in evaluating various alternatives to overcome the existing problem. This project is conducted in an electronic connector manufacturing company located in Shah Alam, Selangor. The production line involved in this project is the assembly line for FX15 model while the product involved in this study is connector manufactured. First, a simulation study on the existing production line is carried out to evaluate the production floor performance. Results of the study revealed that the current production floor was suffering from time working handling. From here, a total of 3 alternative layouts were proposed and they were simulated to determine their effect on the production performance. One way ANOVA test with multiple comparisons was conducted to select the best result. The results again showed a significant difference between each alternative layout and the best alternative to improve the existing production line is the Alternative layout III with productivity increment of 9.15% higher the current situation.
