Download Particle Production in 158.A GeV 208Pb+208Pb Collisions Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
The production of neutral pions in 158A GeV 2°8Pb+2°8Pb collisions has been studied in the WA98 experiment. The centrality dependence of the neutral pion production is investigated. An invariance of the spectral shape and a simple scaling of the yield with the number of participating nucleons is observed for centralities with more than about 50 participants. The transverse mass spectrum is analyzed in terms of a thermal model with hydrodynamic expansion. The high accuracy and large kinematic coverage of the measurement constrains the extracted freeze-out parameters, and provides information on the freeze-out velocity profile.

Download Particle Physics Reference Library Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
This second open access volume of the handbook series deals with detectors, large experimental facilities and data handling, both for accelerator and non-accelerator based experiments. It also covers applications in medicine and life sciences. A joint CERN-Springer initiative, the "Particle Physics Reference Library" provides revised and updated contributions based on previously published material in the well-known Landolt-Boernstein series on particle physics, accelerators and detectors (volumes 21A, B1,B2,C), which took stock of the field approximately one decade ago. Central to this new initiative is publication under full open access

Download Handbook of Particle Detection and Imaging Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
The handbook centers on detection techniques in the field of particle physics, medical imaging and related subjects. It is structured into three parts. The first one is dealing with basic ideas of particle detectors, followed by applications of these devices in high energy physics and other fields. In the last part the large field of medical imaging using similar detection techniques is described. The different chapters of the book are written by world experts in their field. Clear instructions on the detection techniques and principles in terms of relevant operation parameters for scientists and graduate students are given.Detailed tables and diagrams will make this a very useful handbook for the application of these techniques in many different fields like physics, medicine, biology and other areas of natural science.

Download Introduction to Radiological Physics and Radiation Dosimetry Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
A straightforward presentation of the broad concepts underlying radiological physics and radiation dosimetry for the graduate-level student. Covers photon and neutron attenuation, radiation and charged particle equilibrium, interactions of photons and charged particles with matter, radiotherapy dosimetry, as well as photographic, calorimetric, chemical, and thermoluminescence dosimetry. Includes many new derivations, such as Kramers X-ray spectrum, as well as topics that have not been thoroughly analyzed in other texts, such as broad-beam attenuation and geometrics, and the reciprocity theorem. Subjects are layed out in a logical sequence, making the topics easier for students to follow. Supplemented with numerous diagrams and tables.

Download Fluorescent Biomolecules Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
This volume is based on an international symposium held during September 9-12, 1986 in Bocca di Magra, Italy. The intent of the organizers was to bring together expert practitioners of fluorescence spectroscopy, particularly as applied to biological systems, to assess recent developments in the field and discuss future directions. At the same time the meeting was intended to honor the singular and outstanding scientific career of Gregorio Weber on the occasion of his seventieth birthday. Gregorio Weber is truly the pioneer in the application of fluores cence methods to biochemistry and biophysics. A complete list of his scientific contributions to fluorescence and to protein biochemistry is beyond the scope of this preface. Suffice it to say that since his initial landmark articles on fluorescence, published in the late 1940's and early 1950's, Gregorio Weber has continued to make seminal contribu tions to both the theory and practice of fluorescence and, contrary to many who might be tempted to rest on their laurels, he shows no signs of slackening his pace. In addition to his more obvious tangible contributions to the scientific field, Gregorio Weber has made equally valuable contributions of another type. Specifically, he has had the most profound impact, both profeSSionally and personally, on generations of young scientists.
