INTRODUCTION This handbook is designed to provide concise information regarding management of patients in austere environments. It is a "quick reference‟ and is not meant to provide detailed discussions of physiological events. You are expected to provide the standard of care for your EMT certification, including the unique skills native to Pararescue. This is a report of an occupational survey of the Pararescue/Recovery Specialty (AFS 115X0), conducted by the Occupational Analysis Branch, USAF Occupational Measurement Center, in July 1983. This project is to provide data for use in the review and update of the Specialty Training Standards (STS) and to determine job contents and training requirements. The data is to be used in developing preliminary estimates of the feasibility of establishing a centralized undergraduate enlisted aircrew technical school. The basic job for the 115X0 personnel involves performing as an extension of fixed and rotary-wing aircraft to conduct day and night rescue and recovery operations within friendly, hostile, or denied territory to provide emergency medical treatment and means of survival, evasion, resistance, escape, and recovery (SERER) of personnel, and to support recovery operations of aerospace hardware and personnel. During the course of this analysis, a change in the management responsibility for pararescue recovery personnel occurred.
