On Reading Books to Children: Parents and Teachers brings together in one volume current research on adult book reading to children. The authors, drawn from around the world, are key researchers and eminent scholars from the fields of reading and literacy, child language, speech pathology, and psychology, representing multiple perspectives within these disciplines. Chapters on the effects and limitations of book sharing are integrated with chapters discussing promising programs on storybook research. The reality of reading to children is more complex than it appears on the surface. The authors discuss some effects of and suggestions for reading to children that have emerged from the research. The ideas set forth in this volume will stimulate new lines of research on the effects of storybook reading, as well as refinements of current methods, yielding findings that enrich our understanding of this important arena of literacy development.

These kids all love to read—alone or together, on a bus or in a parade. And every time they open a book, they open up a whole new world, too! “A delightful tribute to reading anything and everything all the time. . . . There’s something for everyone.” —Booklist “A chipper, colorful celebration of the limitless possibilities for what, where, and when one can read.” —Publishers Weekly Learning to read is a big accomplishment, and this exuberant picture book celebrates reading in its many forms. In lively rhyme, it follows a diverse group of word-loving children who grab the opportunity to read wherever and whenever they can. They read while waiting and while sliding or swinging; they read music and in Braille and the signs on the road. And, sometimes, they even read together, in a special fort they’ve built. The colorful, fanciful art and rollicking text will get every child more excited about reading!

We offer the easiest way to make reading books with children a pleasure, even for those children who listen to reading reluctantly. With the usual type of reading, a child is a passive listener, while with “reading by picture”, he or she becomes an active participant. Even if children can already read, they are happy to read texts where some of the words are replaced by pictures and perceive it as a bonus or a prize. It is more important to receive such bonuses for children who are just starting to read, or for whom reading still requires effort. A small child can only voice words represented by pictures. This "reading" not only makes kids a full participant in the process but also teaches them to reconcile the words of the picture with other words in the sentence. Older children may try to read words from a vocabulary list that appears before the text. A child who has begun to read will be able to enjoy reading the entire text. If you are reading to your little one, please read slowly. Let your child think about the sentence, find the right word, and enjoy the reading process. Some words in this book are changed to pictures. Each story has a pictured vocabulary list at the beginning. The book includes 3 famous fairy tales: The Wolf and Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and the Gingerbread Man. Great book for non-English speaking children to learn and remember new words in a fun game-based reading activity.
