The photographers presented here travel not just to museums and palaces, but also city centers and deserted country roads, offering still lifes and portraits as well as cityscapes and landscapes. With works by Gabriele Basilico, Gianni Berengo Gardin, Mario Cresci, Renato D'Agostin, Andrea Galvani, Luigi Ghirri, Mimmo Jodice, Nino Migliori, Francesco Nonino, Bianca Sforni, Franco Vaccari and Paolo Ventura, Next Stop: Italygives a refreshing and informative overview of the contemporary photography scene in Italy. Each photographer opens their section with a poem; the authors range from Leopardi and Lorenzo de' Medici to Montale, Pasolini, Pavese and Ungaretti.

An eye-opening investigation of the growing phenomenon of "Relos," the professionals for whom relocation is a way of life Drive through the newest subdivisions of Atlanta, Dallas, or Denver, and you'll notice an unusual similarity in the layout of the houses, the models of the cars, the pastimes of the stay-at-home moms. But this is not your grandparents' suburbia, "the little houses made of ticky-tacky"—these houses go for half a million dollars and up, and no one stays longer than three or four years. You have entered the land of Relos, the mid-level executives for a growing number of American companies, whose livelihoods depend on their willingness to uproot their families in pursuit of professional success. Together they constitute a new social class, well-off but insecure, well traveled but insular. Peter T. Kilborn, a longtime reporter for The New York Times, takes us inside the lives of American Relos, showing how their distinctive pressures and values affect not only their own families and communities but also the country as a whole. As Relo culture becomes the norm for these workers, more and more Americans—no matter their jobs or the economy's booms and busts—will call Relovilles "home."

My husband promised me the world – and on 21st May 2010, we left Sydney’s Darling Harbour on board Princess Cruises Dawn Princess to see it. (It was my 68th birthday!) The 104 days would take us to over 40 destinations on all continents and cover a total distance of 73,440 kilometres or 45,633.5 miles. Prior to this I had only left Australia once – briefly. Herman however, had already spent some years at sea first in the Dutch Merchant Navy, and then in the Royal Dutch Navy and had visited many European and UK ports, and several in South America. On our world cruise he had the opportunity to revisit Curacao in the Netherlands Antilles where he was once posted. As well, members of Herman’s family came from Holland to see us at various ports. Our world cruise preceded the world Covid pandemic which disrupted tourism and travel everywhere. So come with us through a different world, from Sydney and via the Suez Canal and return via the Panama Canal. Herman’s 450 plus photographs say it all, which is why the text is minimal. We have identified features and places together with some useful information. We leave readers to consult the ever accommodating, Mr. Google to provide any additional information. Not all destinations in our 104-day cruise have been covered in this book. Some have been deliberately left out because they have been well covered in our previous books, i.e., Darwin which was included in our Around Australia’s Coastline: Plus, Norfolk Island, some Papua New Guinea & Lombok (Indonesia). Bloomington, IN, Balboa Press, 2021. Auckland, which was included in Around New Zealand in 14 Days. London, Austin Macauley, 2021. And several islands included in our book Around the Pacific, One Island at a Time, Bloomington, IN, Balboa Press, 2022, are excluded here. To cover them again would make this book unwieldy. We also consider each cruise ship a destination in itself. When not touring, life on board is exceptionally interesting and entertaining, magnificent food and ambience, live theatre performances, movies, pre-dinner and lunch concerts, bands and orchestras and orchestral groups, talent quests, choirs and reviews presented by crew, guest entertainers, staff and talented passengers also entertain, art auctions, gyms, swimming pools etc. for the fitness fanatics, presentations from experts, and culinary and other classes, library, shops, casino and any number of games and events in which passengers can participate. We hope you enjoy sharing our world cruise experiences and do make plans to enjoy some cruises yourself. PS. – That’s us on the back cover preparing to leave our motel and board the Princess Cruises Dawn Princess in Sydney’s Darling Harbour. Pamela and Herman Odijk.

This book covers the possible manned mission to Mars first discussed in the 1950s and still a topic of much debate, addressing historic and future plans to visit the Red Planet. Considering the environmental dangers and the engineering and design needed for a successful trip, it covers every aspect of a possible mission and outpost. The chapters explain the motivations behind the plan to go to Mars, as well as the physical factors that astronauts on manned missions will face on Mars and in transit. The author provides a comprehensive exposure to the infrastructure needs on Mars itself, covering an array of facilities including power sources, as well as addressing earth-based communication networks that will be necessary. Mechanisms for return to Earth are also addressed. As the reality of a manned Mars voyage becomes more concrete, the details are still largely up in the air. This book presents an overview of proposed approaches past, present, and future, both from NASA and, increasingly, from other space agencies and private companies. It clearly displays the challenges and the ingenious solutions involved in reaching Mars with human explorers.

Carolina, a French woman living near Munich, embarks on a social journey with the asylum seekers in her town. She wants to welcome, share and integrate. She quickly finds herself on an emotional roller coaster, mixed with joy and hope, as well as sadness and deception. Where does this adventure take her? ------------------- July 2013. Germany is expecting the arrival of a large number of refugees soon. The refugees are to be dispatched homogeneously around the country. This causes concern and calls into question. Carolina, married, mother of two and new in her community, wants to get involved, she wants to help. Her social network is not very wide yet and she doesn't know how the administrative system really works but she is motivated and determined. How will she commit? What are her plans? This autobiography, aiming at showing various aspects of immigration in Europe, recounts the social journey of a woman amongst the refugees in her town. In this astonishing adventure, her path will cross the path of a great number of travellers seeking for help, including Mariam, an Eritrean injured woman soldier, who has regular epileptic fits, Amadou Sane, a young Senegalese who left his motherland full of hopes and dreams and Bahoz, a young and depressed Iraqi journalist, prosecuted by ISIS. This work describes the determination of a young woman in her quest to facilitate the integration of refugees in her town, intertwined with their sad and often tragic stories. Do they really have a chance to stay and be accepted? What is the reality?
