The United States Government Printing Office (GPO) was created in June 1860, and is an agency of the the U.S. federal government based in Washington D.C. The office prints documents produced by and for the federal government, including Congress, the Supreme Court, the Executive Office of the President and other executive departments, and independent agencies. The Coastal Zone Information Center (CZIC) collection provides access to nearly 5,000 coastal related documents that the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) received from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Central Library. The collection provides almost 30 years of data and information crucial to the understanding of U.S. coastal management and NOAA's mission to sustain healthy coasts. This is one of their documents.

The coastlines of the United States are beautiful places to live, work and play. But, they are also very fragile areas whose ecosystems are vulnerable to mismanagement. There are many complex issues facing the ocean science community at the federal, state and local levels-this report reflects the conclusions and recommendations of the National Academies drawing on discussions with USGS as well as input from potential users, clients and collaborators of the Coastal and Marine Geology Program.

Provides an overview of the U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) Marine and Coastal Geology Program (MCG). The program's mission is to investigate geologic issues affecting the nation's coastal and marine resources and to provide objective scientific information to managers and planners. Provides address and contact information for MCG research centers. Offers access to image files of coastal and marine highlights that include visualizations of coastal ocean models, a satellite image atlas of the world's glaciers, and simulated 3-D images of the Monterey Submarine Canyon. Provides links and search capabilities for other USGS Web servers, including those of the MCG's three primary research teams.
