Excerpt from Miscellaneous Poems: Songs and Rhymes It is with genuine pleasure, and some pride, that I am now able to accede to the wishes of my sympathetic readers, and present to them this collection of my poetical compositions in volume form. Many of the shorter ones have previously appeared in various journals, whilst others are now published for the first time; and I hope these may meet with that kindly reception which has hitherto been accorded my simple effusions. I would here gratefully acknowledge the generous response I have had from all classes; and only hope this work will be found to merit the support it has received.
