Herbal medicine is as old as the rain forests and as current as today's headlines. Americans spend billions each year on herbal products. What can all these herbs do for us? The authors lucidly demonstrate the efficacy of herbals and other highly touted alternative medicines. In clinical trials, herbs have elicited stunning turnabouts in heart disease, cancer, and -- perhaps most dramatically -- in viral diseases such as AIDS. This book tells the story of physicians and scientists working with ancient natural secrets to find new and highly effective medicine. Readers are educated about health care options that enable them to judge for themselves whether the claims for commercially prepared herbs are accurate.
